Project Runway All Stars Recap: Nonconventional

Uli gets mad props for her beautiful design. Finally! She has a sheer siding that I didn’t notice before, to keep the dress lighter. Everyone loves the color choice and the intricacy of the detailing. The complaints are that the hem is sagging slightly in the back and that she has a seam visible in the mesh… very specific and trivial complaints, which usually mean great success!

I can see the spray tan industry is alive and well in Miami

The judges recess to talk real shit and I am mad that they tear Joshua up again. I really think he should be given some credit for his creativity since the other three “successful” dresses look very similar. Dead Mauth really got a pass this time.

Georgina’s shoes: divine. Georgina’s life: devastation

We reconvene to find out that Uli won!!!! I am really happy as an Uli fan and also as someone who belived she had the best look.

It’s about time!

I had totally forgotten the other part to this challenge, which makes sense because it had absolutely no relevance or tie-in, but back in the holding tank the very creepy old gonad collector comes in and presents Uli with a generic looking watch. I guess the blinged-out versions are for paying customers. Uli squeals as a polite fraulein would.

“Look you guys, it’s the worst!”

“I am a few models up from the worst actually”

The closest match for this watch that a quick Google search brought up was about $10k, so this is an almost expensive, almost ugly, watch. If you like it you will probably be able to find it on Ebay soon under the seller “SewSoUli”.

Ivy and Papa Elsa land in the bottom and once again, Ivy is spared, but still heart broken because her protégé is out. She says some very nice things about Papa Elsa and even says she wishes she could go in his place. That seems a little far-fetched and frankly, the two of them were living on borrowed time regardless so a few weeks in either direction wouldn’t make any difference. I feel like despite her addiction to sheer shirts, her public image is almost rehabilitated though. Selflessness, check.

No one rocks a fur dickie like Papa

Papa Elsa gives a very noble goodbye and a lot of the designers are emotional so he clearly is a really good person. His final interview expresses no regrets and he talks about taking time for self-reflection and learning. He is clearly on the wrong network.

MrsMiaWallace is an east coast girl with a  penchant for travel, libations and great cuisine. She is not known to turn down a mimosa or a martini and finds the transition between the two a good way to mark the passing of time since she can never remember to wear a watch. Her secret love for reality tv and addiction to Bravo have drawn her like a moth to the glittering snark of TVGasm,  where she finds there are others like her... hopefully also nursing Bloody Marys.

It was definitely time for Papa to take the walk. He was coasting by, at best, all season long. It was his time to go for sure.
I did feel bad for the hate on Josh’s outfit, but those shorts were an incredible disaster. As much as they ragged on him though, they called him safe first and left Ivy and Papa in the bottom two. So the top clearly made more right than the shorts made wrong.
I was happy with the designs overall. It was a great choice for unconventional products. Some have been better than others, and this was a good one. Congrats to Uli for an awesome dress! I’m predicting Aryan and Uli for sure in the finale.

I do really miss the more off-the-wall designers like Papa, Kane, and Andre when they leave though. I’m still bummed that Kane didn’t go through with his horrible smiley face….

Noooooo, cattyfan! That can’t be truth! I need La Naranja! If one of them must go it should be Nina! :(

Great recap, NMW! I absolutely hated JerseyShore’s outfit, but I agree it was time for Casa to go!

    Merry Christmas !!

It was time for Papa to go. I’m surprised he lasted this long. I really wish St. Pancake would go already, but I suspect that she’s going to sneak into the final 3.

Since when is $10k “almost” expensive? That is really expensive to me, but so is anything over $500.

@badgerfreak – I was glad they gave Josh the top of the losers at least, the other two deserved to lose more and yes it was totally time up for Casanova. But I loved how gracious he was when he left.

@sagittariuskim – that is a lot of money for a watch, but not compared to the rest of their watch line and not compared to luxury watches. It just struck me as a little bait and switch to give the lowest end watch they make. Plus the weird fact that the whole watch product tie-in made no sense with the rest of the episode… unless I missed something?

Zac Posen is replacing Kors? I loathe Zac Posen. Here’s hoping Nina chews him up and spits him out.

I’m hoping Hivy goes next. She is boring with a capital B.

I liked Uli’s dress, but really thought that detailing down that front made it look like the model was wearing a merkin.
