Dmitry describes his inspiration of the NYC Guggenheim and Sydney Opera House. Nina loves the polish and finishing touches, especially the dress with cut-outs. She says he has issues with styling and Kors agrees. Apparently Dmitry needs to be cooler and younger. Kors then proves he is a bear by talking about how he can’t eat porridge unless it’s the perfect temperature. Or maybe that makes him goldilocks.
“This is based on the famous building in Shanghai with a giant bellybutton in the lobby”
Chris explains the x-ray inspiration which they really like. What they don’t like is how boring and basic his collection is appearing to be. Kors is the king of sportswear and even he finds this to be a snooze. Nina also wishes the models were covered up more. She’s afraid the entire show will have some vag flashing if these are his most impressive looks. They like the detail and the idea but what he showed them is not proving the rest is worth seeing. Waiting to see and use what already fit the models did not work out for little Christopher.
“I thought dressing anorexic people in bone print was high fashion”
Tara fares slightly better since she has a dress that’s nice, but boring, and her jacket is a standout “hero” piece. But again, Heidi would like to see some more of the drama Tara swears is in her collection. Tara makes the mistake of saying that she didn’t want to show all her best stuff on the prequel runway. Kors reminds her that this is it and if they don’t impress today they may not have the chance to show on the runway. On camera anyway.
At least going after Chris makes her collection look more interesting
Nina asks about color. I’m wondering if she asked Dmitry as well, but Tara reassures her that there is one red piece. Nina is not convinced that monochromatic is a strong choice.
“I’ve got the most colorful thing in the room right here. Like a tangerine Vienna Sausage”
Nina does praise the point of view and “coolness” of the collection but points out to all of them that the detailing gets lost when every piece is so dark and then chastises everyone for not putting out their very best.
The judges talk and talk and then let everyone stay. Based on this runway, Chris should have gone home. I get that he has more to show and I’m actually interested to see it, but the punishment for putting out a lot of mall clothes that look exactly the same in a high-stakes challenge is to be cut. So I may have just joined the Christopher conspiracy bandwagon.
They had better not shortchange this one
