Not the real trailer – but you guys know Ms.VanCamp is the new female lead in Captain America 2, right? We knew her when…
Much has been made of how REVENGE has gone off the rails this season – has lost the thread, forgotten the purpose, abandoned the raison d’etre, for cryin’ out loud! And I have been among the many screaming “FOUL, vile producers! Second season most foul, indeed!” But let’s put that all behind us now because we must get back to the basics. The basics of REVENNNNNGE!
Get it, girl.
“Retribution” gives us many reasons to believe that Emily (the artist formerly known as Amanda Clarke – the one and only now!) Thorne will return as the Head Bitch In Charge – with Victoria Grayson continuously changing up the rules of the game. Divas to the bitter end.
The hour begins with the requisite VO regarding the requisite title of the episode. It is basically a “should I continue the cycle of violence to avenge the wronged?” Girl – check the name of your show. BTW – when does VanCamp record these things – 3 o’clock in the morning? She’s always so tranquil, calm, and Ambien’d – can’t you show a little emotion for your fallen juvie homegirl? I suppose Takeda looks down upon emotional voiceovers. “Never show emotion in the sound booth, Amanda-San – or whoever the hell you are.” Oh well.
She is emotional, however, as she rushes into the house later the same night with Nolan. Right away she is identifying the problem and basically blaming herself for being off her game. She loads the pistol, watches off the blood, and reclaims her war cry “The Graysons! The GRAYSONS!” And yes – she is correct.
Aiden arrives and is informed of what went down. Alone upstairs, Ems pulls out the sacred necklace that Faux had gone back for – she opens the locket and finds a picture of the two of them – Goth Amanda and Convict Emily, as they were when they met. Flashback. She cries. All right, young lady – enough of that!
Aww – and remember, kids, bangs don’t work for everyone!
Conrad, meanwhile, is having a bit of a freakout session. He cannot reach RyBro #2, who he ordered to take out Fauxmanda and is a bit concerned about the computer that could send him to jail for life.
Charlotte and Declan are off to the hospital (Declan is there so one of Vic’s could care for the baby). Conrad finally realizes that the plan has gone awry. What a creep.
“OMG – I aligned with RyBro #2 and now the ship has gone down – literally! Jack is shot, Clarke girl is missing, the Initiative is still on my ass, I just announced to the world I am running for Governor! God, I wish Amber Valletta was here right now!”
Jonathan Mallen grew up in San Francisco, went to college at Santa Clara, and has spent the bulk of his youth living and dying in LA. Don't worry, mostly living. He has worked as an actor, teacher, limo driver, waiter, personal assistant, office assistant, script reader, retail associate, etc etc AND etc... Very glamorous, he knows. He is very happy to add blogger to his illustrious resume.

I thought this episode is getting the show back on the right track. Nolan had some great one-liners. Emily better not throw the red Sharpie of Doom into the drink, though.

do we know how long emily was in juvie before her 18th birthday release? because if it was several years, and she’s supposed to be 29 this year (and went from punk/goth to wasp in the process), it is possible her foster brother wouldn’t be sure it’s her right away.
does anyone know how many episodes are left in the season?

“Nolan needs another collar for comfort” Omg I died!
@ellemenop- The time continuity in this show is awful, I gave up on that a long time ago.
I also thought Padma looked super evil, which got me thinking that maybe her father is the HBIC of the Initiative, and the finger was a trick.

I’m more convinced than ever that Padma is evil (LOVE your theory, emerthorne – that explains the one gap missing, re: how she could be an Initiative power player when she was likely younger than Ems herself during the David Clarke framing) and, while I’ve loved every episode, I definitely think the show is on the right track to returning to its season one (Victoria versus Emily front and center) heyday. I agree – Madeleine Stowe and Emily VanCamp are golden together, and I’m hopeful (and have been since “Union”) that they will continue to wrap up minor storylines nobody cares about and focus on the two women everybody watches for (plus Nolan, free from the baggage of a relationship). I can’t wait for Victoria to “throw down” with Trask! I’m wondering – for symmetry and to officially mint Daniel as a Grayson – if, as Victoria killed Helen to save Daniel, maybe Daniel will kill Trask to save his mother? I’d actually like that. Evil or not, Victoria loves Daniel and I don’t want him to be the one to try to bring her down. Also, great plotting on The Queen’s part to put Aiden in position to be the new David Clarke (with those damning transactions), in case they can’t stop Trask & Co.
