Revenge

She’s got the power

Revenge returned this week with a nod to the Revenge of yore. You see, way back when in season 1, the show was built around a simple conceit: each week Ms. Thorne (nee Clarke) would locate and dispose of an enemy. The show was more concise and each week concluded with a delicious crossing out of a nefarious foe. There was immediate gratification and it was f’ing rad. This season – not so much (The Initiative? The Stowaway long con? Bitch, please). But in “Power” Ems was reunited with her red Sharpie and another player in the demise of David Clarke paid his debt. X marks the spot.

“Power” begins with a bit of combat training for young lovers Emily and Aiden. They cannot resist the lure of sand in their buttcracks however and soon begin another sort of wrestling – tongue wrestling. Pre-dawn ninja love. Totes adorbs.

“You know what a little ass-kickin does to me…”

“Oh baby, baby…”

The Initiative makes an early appearance in the hour with Miss Initiative 2013 creepily picking up Daniel off the street in her stealth limo. She plays the Wicked Witch tempting Daniel with hidden riches to be found in Grayson Global files. Puppy dog Daniel bats his big brown eyes and nods, falling for the bait. Daniel is what polite people call “simple”.

She’s got the look of constipation down pat

The Stowaway! Jack wakes up and greets Fauxmanda and Carl down in the bar. Parenthood – they are doing it wrong. He presents her with a necklace made of sea glass to wear on their wedding day. This is a very sweet gesture. Must…not…snark… Ah, screw it – ladies, would you wear a necklace of glass found on the beach on your wedding day?? Sweet – yes. Thoughtful – maybe. Trashy – oh yeah.

Wedding jewelry?  Really?

At Grayson Manor, Victoria does her hourly takedown of Conrad – ridiculing the loss of his company. She reminds him the Initiative will be coming for Daniel! Too late, Vic. On a lighter note (ha), they will be having guests for the weekend! They are hosting Judge Barnes and his wife Patricia who are hosting a fundraiser for their charity which represents the falsely accused (irony?). Oh, and the Judge also presided over David Clarke’s trial and was obviously responsible for the death of the foreman who dared to expose the misappropriation of facts. And he’s nominated for the supreme court. Ding ding ding! I think we’ve found a candidate for some 45 min. quickie REVENGE!

The conspiracy of Emily and Victoria begins on Vic’s balcony where Em gets full view of her home below. As you may remember, Vic has a proposition for Emily – get back together with Daniel so they can control him and his dealings at Grayson Global and with the Initiative. He still loves her! And if she ever truly loved him, she has to say yes! Er, ok.

Whaddya mean it’s not a real balcony?

I did like going back to the getting revenge in 45 minutes arc. This was a solid episode minus the dumbness of the Porters but I guess that fits in with their characters at least.

I love sea glass and collect it. I actually have a sea glass necklace, but it is just one piece on the end of a chain and it is more everyday simple piece of jewelry. The sea glass necklace in the show was just wrong. It looked awful.

I don’t care about the bar and all those characters at all. They better wrap it up quickly because it’s almost to the point where it is fast-forward-able. Except I think Nate Ryan is a little extra eye candy. Does anyone watch “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”? Jack was actually great on that show.

Did anyone notice that Victoria either reduced her botox to every other week or she tried new injection sites. Her face is actually showing more than one emotion in an episode.

@April – totally agree about the 45 minute arc. It just works so much better. But with a couple little on going side stories (Aiden and & his sister, etc).

I think the “untold treasures” thing was the piece of stealth software Marco was talking about with Nolan in that scene… maybe? I don’t know, I’m just glad the red pen of REVENGE is back.
