And then there’s Ana again, piping up uselessly about where SHE came from. SHE was the child of immigrant parents who put her through law school and after 23 years of marriage, she’s raised two smart daughters and been successful at two careers. Mrs. Black is deemed less worth of accolade because she… married up. That’s the jist.
Though, being the child of immigrants parents don’t count for that much nowadays…
I still don’t think Ana’s right about Lea’s doing absolutely nothing but marrying up to gain her success (especially when you read stuff like this, …and this…). But Ana makes a good point – Lea claims to have a bunch of influence and she runs her mouth knowing people listen. At the same time, she claims to be Marysol’s friend. It’s a difficult spot to be in, ethically, and II don’t think Ana’s totally out to lunch to call Lea on it.
THAT SAID Ana kinda destroys the whole thing by saying that Lea’s done all her best work “on her back.” Ouch. You’re better than that, Ana. She’s got a point, I suppose, but I just don’t get where it’s coming from. I wonder if, since Ana’s in the legal community, she’s got an insight into Roy and Lea Black that we don’t have. I’m gonna give her that, but she’s coming across really psychotic.
Commercial! Now it’s time to take a look at Joanna’s drinking habits, and it ain’t pretty. Before much can really be said about Joanna’s probable (obvious) drinking problem, the whole thing denigrates into another Adriana/Joanna knockdown dragout screamfest. In the ensuing few minutes, both accuse the other of racism, both inaccurately and the only interesting thing that comes out is that I wasn’t wrong about Romain in the first few recaps. I guess he’s French, but he grew up in Brazil! Yay, me!
Aaaand now it’s time to talk about the slap. And when I say talk, I mean time for Adriana and Joanna to trade such mature and intelligent barbs as, “Let me tell you about HO-anna – what, it’s how you say it in Spanish!” and “Go fuck yourself.” Ana, can you tell us where you’re from again? I would much rather listen to stories about Cuban immigrants and law school. Adriana still maintains that she tried to walk away so while she should not have gotten physical, she was still totally justified. Part One ends in fine housewife form, with nothing resolved and new conflicts created.
PART THE SECOND
Let’s talk about Joe Francis! The conversation moves to Lisa’s party in general, and Joanna once and for all addresses the fact that she did NOT sleep with him. She won’t speak for poor Marta, though. Eesh, Marta’s seriously gotten the short end of the stick this whole season – footie pajamas and boning Joe Francis. Not a good year. As for the fight, Adriana and Joanna regret the whole night, and Karen’t is allowed to bring up the fact that the reporter who wrote the article that started it all, Tweeted a retraction. Yay! The whole thing was bullshit! Andy points out that Adriana owes Karen’t AND Joanna apologies. One to Karen’t for the accusation, and one to Joanna because Joanna was totally right about reporters twisting words. Adriana… apologizes and the situation is resolved. Um… moving on?
