The next morning, quelle freaking surprise, Kody is running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Everyone is supposed to meet at Meri’s. Janelle spends her time mocking Joe’s request that his family not be kept waiting for 2 hours. Nice! In an interview, Meri says she could be married to Joe, which makes Kody look askance at her and then get up and leave. Christine says Joe’s family respects him. Well, yes, because he acts like a leader, not an overgrown child.
Of course, we all respect YOU too, Kody! Can’t you tell?
At Oceanside, Kody is having difficulty finding parking for all the Browns’ cars. Sigh. They are renting a place that looks to be right on the beach, so that’s nice. Joe, as you’d expect, has a layout of the homes and notes on who’s staying where. Kody wants to start with assigning kitchens, Meri says let’s start with bedrooms. Duh.
They all go to California Water Sports, where Kody tries to “shock” the guy working there. No one is shocked by you, Kody. The Water Sports guy makes it clear he could care less about their being polygamous. In an interview, Christine says she likes how Joe runs his family and would be happy if their kids dated. Great idea! Polygamous families aren’t inbred enough!
The adults get to talking, and Alina asks what started the Browns going public. Kody says he didn’t want innocent pligs being picked on. He’s a regular Rosa Parks, ain’t he? Alina says that she lost a baby when it was 5 months old, it died at home so there was an investigation, and it was made clear to the Dargers that their polygamy was a factor in the investigation. Joe says they feared being arrested or losing their kids. Alina says her grandfather was in prison for polygamy when she was growing up. Janelle asks if the Browns’ profile is helping the Dargers, and Joe says he is still sometimes frustrated at folks’ attitudes. Well yes, cause Warren Jeffs.
In an interview, Robin emphasizes not every polygamous family has underage brides. Of course they don’t! There are 2 families – Browns and Dargers – who don’t! So there! Kody makes the point that not every plig family commits welfare fraud. Just most of them then?
Back n the beach, Christine shares she’s intimidated by the Darger women. Well, they are all fairly good-looking and trim. Apparently they exercise together every morning. Hey, weren’t the Browns doing that too in their health club? Oh right, that fell by the wayside. Alina shares that the Dargers discussed Joe showing affection to one wife in front of the others, and they felt displaying affection was natural. Kody shares that works in theory but not in practice. Alina says the affection Joe shows other wives doesn’t take anything away from her. Meri shares that the Brown wives already have so many things to be jealous over, why add another thing? Yes, that dysfunctional, hostile witches’ brew has enough ingredients already.
