Apple Pie here, subbing for Potty Mouth. Hope I can make PM proud! 16 Left, 2 more to go tonight … welcome to So You Think You Can Dance!
Damn, Cat, you even make goth look good!
Aw, fuck! They let Amelia have her way and gave the group a black and white Chaplin-esque (pre-recorded) opening number. Does she need the extra attention? The red umbrella is jumping the shark a bit in my opinion. This is a dance show, but I guess all those choreographers want their own Emmys.
See what you started with your THREE Emmys, Mia?
At least Cutie-Patootie George gets an opportunity to wear a real mustache.
I really like the new time-saving dancer intros they do, making one guy and one girl dance together instead of doing inane mini-solos. This way, they look more cute than desperate. I forgot that Witney (that silent “h” is so 1988) and Chehon (he’ll take the extra “h”, thanks) are now a couple since the other halves of their couples were axed last week. Can’t wait to see what they do together. Witney better not bring down my favorite Swiss Miss Milk Chocolate. We all know Audrey will win for the girls and George will win for the boys, right? It’s destiny! I forgot about Amelia and Will. Will’s Guy-Next-Door-With-Amazing-Talent vibe tames Amelia’s inability to get over herself, so I do like that couple, too. I love the buildup each week as I get to guess at this point in the show who choreographed the opening number.
Of course, it was SirBitchyPants … I should have known! He and Amelia should have a Broadway show called “How to Not Succeed in Dance While Trying Really, Really Hard.”
In all fairness, SirBitchyPants did win one Emmy already, but that was for this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7IAvlt16e4 which, I’m sure we can all agree, is not typical Tyce. I’ll bet he had one of his underlings choreograph that one, and then took the credit!
To: SYTYD Producers From: Tabitha Message: “My fetus and I do NOT want to sit next to this asshole.”
FYI: SYTYCD is taking a 2-week break due to Olympic coverage, starting next week! Let’s meet the “jidges”. Unfortunately, Nigel and Mary are here, in top form, and they both brought their annoying 365 teeth. You think Nigel, with his piles of money, could have paid for some better-fitting dentures.
Even I had better teeth.
But look who they got for a guest judge this week …. Squee!
Please, please, please watch “Up All Night.”
Oooh, this is my favorite week … SECRETS week … we get introduced to the dancers as they dime out their partners. Tiffany does not disappoint.
George peed his pants at his first track meet. He’s wearing a diaper tonight.
If you like it, spread it!:

One minor detail: “I forgot that Witney (that silent “h” is so 1988) and Chehon (he’ll take the extra “h”, thanks) are now a couple since the other halves of their couples were axed last week.” Actually, no. The new couple this week is Brandon and Amber since their partners were let go last week.
I was sad to see Amber go – she is an amazing dancer. But I was not surprised. Maybe she will now join the dance troupes that have been recruiting her! I really don’t like this new show format. I don’t see why the station can’t give them a 1/2 hour the next night (even at 7:30) to announce the results.
I love the Olympics so don’t mind the wait – I just hope that the audience comes back…
So far so good, but Amber & Brandon were the new partners. Witney & Chehon have been together since week 1. Continuing to read the recap….
Whoops! Those funny “h” names bamboozled me! I am super embarrassed since I’ve watched every ep of this show since Season 2. Thanks for keeping me honest, @Tiffany and @Pikey578!
I didn’t really like the opening number, I kind of find Charlie Chaplin creepy. One thing I miss about the live group routines is seeing what kind entrance the choreographers created for Cat.
I liked both of hip hop routines. I wish they would stop showing Tabitha demonstrating the moves. I don’t like seeing pregnant women being active, I keep expecting the baby to fall out or something.
I think Christina had good idea when she said Eliana should start working with Cyrus, and preparing him for contemporary.
I’m not surprised by who went home. I loved that Brandon had a smile on his face the whole time, I think he didn’t expect to make it very far.
@sagittariuskim, thank you. Every time I see a very pregnant woman being overly active(in my eyes) I think the baby is going to fall or at least begin the process to fall out. I was in and out of like for the opening number. I did not like the salsa and but damn did I love Amber, the Lindsay and Cole piece and Chehon and Witney’s. Of course Cyrus did well but Eliana surprised me, I appreciated Tabitha and Napoleon giving Eliana a few ballet moves. Thank you Christina for giving for the most part honest feedback ^5 to the Eliana helping Cyrus. I am beyond surprised Amber went home and expected Brandon’s ride to be short, the judges already have their pony…Cyrus.
“ethic lawn gnomes” was supposed to be “ethnic lawn gnomes”. Another whoops … guess I shouldn’t write these things in the middle of the night. I agree with all of the comments about Tabby’s activity while hugely pregnant. We can already see her belly button through all of her shirts (and you know how I feel about belly buttons). I kept waiting for her to go into labor during the live show. The way everyone connected to the show promotes their own projects, nothing would surprise me at this point.
I hope Cyrus can show us more next week, although I didn’t think his jive a few weeks ago was as terrible as Mary said it was. Remember when they used to show us the couples picking each other’s names and their dance style for the week pre-rehearsal? I used to think it was filler, but now I miss it. I don’t trust that they’re actually getting random genre assignments this year.
@applie pie, they don’t show the hat pick anymore, because it’s not random anymore. Now they pick numbers randomly and in order of the numbers they pick their routine out of the choices for the week.
As for the routines, I LOVED Cyrus and Eliana. I like Lindsey/Cole alot too. Witney/Chehon did a good job and it was really pretty, but I’m with Apple Pie…I didn’t really feel the chemistry. Despite teh judges breaking down and crying I just didn’t feel it that much.
As for the bottom 6…what the hell??? How the hell were George and Eliana in the bottom. All I can guess is the foxtrot brought George down…it never really gets many votes. And, Eliana is gettng screwed by being with Cyrus. She gets dumbed down choreography because Cyrus can’t handle anything else and then doesn’t get votes because of it. (while he coasts along on his personality alone). I think he’s a nice guy, but just isnt ready for the challenge of the show. At least this week they had hip-hop so could do some more complicated choreo.
I felt bad for Brandon and Amber, but I wasn’t surprised. The votes were based on last week, not this week. I loved how positive Brandon was, smiling the whole time even after he got the boot. Amber just had a sourpuss the whole time. Made me not like her.
Based on the solos, I’d have kept Brandon over Dareian but realized that if they kept Brandon he’d be on his third partner in four episodes. If we hadn’t spent all that time with Alexa and, yes, Cyrus during the auditions and Hollywood week, maybe some of these other dancers might have some kind of fanbase, but now Alexa is gone and Cyrus is really not up to snuff with the other dancers and better dancers than Cyrus will get cut, maybe even his partner.
I hated it came down between Amber and Eliana. Amber is really, really good and her solo was beautiful. But, Eliana is better. Being with ballroom guy hurt Amber. He wasn’t able to fake any chemistry with her. She had no difficulty with Brandon.
I pretty much didn’t like this episode. Everything seemed off somehow.
Nice to see Christina Applegate!
>I hated it came down between Amber and Eliana.
I don’t think it did. I think the judges knew before the show even started it was Amber. But they probably wanted to let the people who were leaving do solos, and had already blocked out the time for them… And Amber had to do her solo “against” somebody… So I think they just said, okay, Amber’s leaving and we will let her do her solo… then for the other girl’s solo, do we want to see a ballet solo or a ballroom solo? Easy decision.
Of course this is all just speculation on my part… but it makes sense doesn’t it?
I actually think they just wanted to show us what Eliana can do, as Nigel has said several times that we haven’t really seen it in the weeks of live competition. He wanted to show that there was a mistake made by putting her in the bottom three so it could be avoided next time, in my opinion.
I absolutely HATE HATE HATE (sorry to shout:)) the new format. It’s just another way for Nigel to rig the show. After watching it since season 2, I’m not even sure I’m going to keep watching the “Search for Nigel’s favorite dancer”.
Double ug!
