Chehon’s moment is Melanie’s audition piece last year. I’m not going to argue with that one since I adore her and that was the moment that began the adoration. She is amazeballs. Witney’s got a good moment as well; when Travis showed up in drag during the season 4 auditions. It was a stupid goofy moment, but I try to remember that one whenever he seems to be taking himself too seriously.
Mia says it’s going to be the same piece but tweaked here and there to give it a little bit of a facelift. She tells them so much of this dance is acting. I think they both realize that this one is a lot to live up to.
And the original….
Here’s the thing about this one; I believe that had I never seen the original, I would have really loved this one. The problem is that I DID see the original. Many, many times. And thought I think they (Chehon especially) did a really good job here; this is one of those routines that was a defining and unforgettable moment of its particular season. And so, it still falls short.
Nigel is really pleased with this. He thinks the technique shone through it as well as the story. And then he explains the story of this routine; the flower represents Mia’s love and she once fell in love with a gay guy and tried to give him her flower love, but he couldn’t accept her love even though he did love her.
Mary thinks this routine is hypnotic to watch and she thinks they really pulled it off. She’d like to see him let go of his control a little bit more, but he’s still fantastic, and she thinks Witney was fabulous in this.
Michael tells Witney that he was recently in Salt Lake City and the dancers there are amazing. He tells Chehon he has a job with Ballet Boyz if he ever wants one.
We’re closing out the performance section of this episode with Cole and Lindsay. Fuck me with a chainsaw, they are dancing “Gravity” aka Addiction which was originally danced by Kayla and Kupono in season 5. FUCK FUCK FUCK. I hate the thought of this so much.
Cole’s moment is Mark which makes no sense because he is a person not a moment. And not even like SOMETHING that Mark did, just Mark in general because they’re both from Hawaii and the same studio. Y’all know I love Mark, but he couldn’t even come up with a dance or something? How ‘bout “The Garden”? Let’s just pretend he said that, mmkay?
Lindsay’s moment is Travis and Benji’s nerd hip hop from the Season 2 finale which is awesome and hilarious because she and a friend recreated it on You Tube when they were twelve! Adorable.
