Kenny says he can imagine this routine on a Broadway stage right now. He thinks the personalities were on fire and it was what Broadway is all about.
Nigel says who would have ever thought Cyrus would be doing a Broadway routine.
Shhhhhh Cyrus. Nigel wants to go off on a tangent about how you’re untrained and all that. Sure enough, he does just that but he also points out that Cyrus immerses himself in the entire process, and I agree with that; it’s part of what makes the guy so damn likeable.
He also tells Eliana that the routine didn’t really show off what she can do, but says that she has set the bar for the girls this year; he thinks that she is a brilliant dancer.
Next up is Audrey and Matthew.
They’ll be dancing a Travis Wall piece that he tells us is based on the love story from the Titanic movie. I groan when I hear this because I’m thinking it’s going to be syrupy sweet and annoying.
You know, between the premise and the song (Unchained Melody – love the song, but how obvious can you get?) I thought for sure this one was going to make me barf. I was so wrong. These two are so fucking great together. WOW.
Standing ovation from the judges. Kenny thinks it was exquisitely choreographed and gorgeously danced. Bravo, brava; fantastic.
Nigel enjoyed it more than anything else this evening. He says it lifted his spirits and took him on a journey. He also talks about the maturity of the choreography and points out that Travis is only 24. He thinks the dancer’s technique tonight was superb and it all came together in one very special routine. Mary agrees.
And now we’ve reached our last couple of the evening, Lindsay and Cole.
I’ve lost my upper lip and don’t know where to find it!
They’ve drawn a paso doble with Jason Gilkison. But unlike normal pasos where the lady is the cape, this time around Lindsay is supposed to be like a poison leeching away Cole’s upper lip strength.
This is another AWESOME number. So dynamic and strong. Cole put Nick to shame on the ballroom front. This guy is definitely going to be one to watch. I also have to say that Lindsay sort of surprised me here; she was much more dynamic than I thought she would be. This is definitely one of the top numbers of the night in my book.
Another standing ovation from the judges and Kenny thinks these two have delivered two of the best performances they’ve ever had on the show. Mesmerizing and electrifying. Mary tells Jason that’s the best paso he’s ever choreographed for this show. Nigel says that he thinks that is the best paso they’ve ever had on the show. Like EVER. I bet Pasha and Dmitry are PISSED right now.
And there you have it, Gasmi. What did you think of the performances? Is anyone really standing out to you already? Any opinions that you’ve changed? Who do you think is going to be in danger of going home? I think for sure Nick and Amber are going to land in the bottom, probably Janaya and Brandon, and maybe Alexa and Daniel. I think it’s most likely to be couples landing there together, at least in the first few weeks, but who knows?
