First up is Tiffany. She prances around a lot in a bathing suit (because she’s from Florida) and her mom tells us she was rambunctious.
She also had an older sister and wanted to do everything she did and that’s how she got into dance. There’s a really cute clip of Tiffany and her sister dancing a duet together and she talks about how much she loves her sister. Awwwwww.
Her solo is pretty much what we all expect. Lots o’developpes, turns, and rolling around on the floor. My eyes are starting to roll up into my head as we head into the break.
Now I’m really confused. What the hell?!?!?
The first pairing we’re going to see is Witney and Twitch. They’ll be dancing a hip hop routine with SYTYCD Canada choreographer Luther Brown. Someone who has watched the Canadian show will have to tell us if this is original choreography or a piece that he did on that version of the show.
Luther tells us that the piece is East Coast hip hop and Luther tells Witney that he likes it ratchet. She doesn’t know what the fuck that means and neither do I. I took a trip over to urban dictionary and found out that ratchet means a person or activity that is out of hand, out of control, or generally whack in some way. It also means “A madam of the nasty ghetto species, dressed in an ensemble of cheetah print leggings and a leotard, not to mention the thong 4 sizes too small beneath these items. On top of her head is generally perched a purple weave, often resembling shredded plastic. A lady of this sort may be caught sipping a beverage called Baby Drank, or 4loko mixed with rufies……… AKA Baby Drank. Ratchets are most commonly known for their slurring of words due to the Baby Drank. Most Ratches are commonly found dancing sloppily on poles, most commonly knocking them over due to their immense weight.”
I’m hoping Luther is referring to the first definition because I don’t think Witney is up to the challenge of the second one.
I have got to admit that I am impressed with Witney keeping up in a hip hop routine. I’m not sure I thought she really had it in her. I love it when a dancer can surprise me, and she certainly did that here. Was this the best girl hip hop ever? No, but it was SO MUCH better than I thought she could do. Props to Wit.
Let’s go over to the judges.
I got SIX boners!
He is so gross. He also hits himself in the head a few times and I wish he’d knock himself out for the duration of the show. Mary tries to school Nigel on what ratchet is and she’s about as successful as you’d think she’d be. She thinks Witney was everything in that number and if she had a hat on she’d take it off to Witney.
