Who can hate when the girl can DANCE????? Damn. She is freaking fantastic. I can only hope that Nigel can keep it in his pants while watching her because he’s the one that’ll end up making me puke.
The judges adore her and give her a standing ovation when she’s done. Nigel says that what she just did is what he’s talking about when he tells them all that they need to bring a full performance, not just a series of steps. Of course Mary and Jesse LOVE her as well, and she’s getting a ticket to Vegas.
Now it’s time for our first montage of the evening. We’ve got a couple of contemporary dancers and a tapper all inspired by other dancers and all going straight through to Vegas. The tapper we’ll probably never see again because Nigel is an asshole when it comes to tap. OR one will get on the show and Nigel will pretend they’ve never had a tapper before. Have I mentioned lately that I hate him?
It’s time for the next audition sequence and this one is all about how people come to audition together; teachers and students, sisters and sisters, etc, and so on; you get the point. Of course this is all leading up to something.
We spend A LOT of time with these two , seeing where they live, listening to them talk about how awesome they are, blah, blah, blah. Once we FINALLY make it to the stage, we find out that they are 32. The age limit for the show is 30. ARGH!!!!!!! SO FUCKING ANNOYING.
I honestly don’t even care that they’re decent dancers. Why the fuck did we spend THREE SEGMENTS on these guys when they are too fucking old to even be on the show?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I get that they brightened the judges’ day, but REALLY?????? I don’t need to spend that much time with anyone that’s too old to go anywhere.
Okay, fine. We could spend 10 segments on YOU Hugh and you know I wouldn’t be pissed, but you are a very specific exception.
We go from Nigel’s feel good inclusion of ineligible dancers to a downer in the form of Sam Lenarz. Apparently she and her mom don’t get along and it got so bad that her mom kicked her out of the house six months ago. We’re not told WHAT happened, but we do know that her best friend’s family has taken her in and they’re also at the audition supporting her.
She’s a good dancer, but I’m not floored by her. Nigel thinks she’s lacking emotion and artistry, just going through the motions so to speak, and I have to agree with him. (I know, it happens sometimes). He asks if her family is supportive of her dancing and she says no. Is it the dancing her mom isn’t supportive of? I thought they didn’t get along?? I feel like we’re missing a chunk of the story here.
There’s more talk of how crappy it is when parents don’t support dance, and then she moves on to choreography. I’m still not convinced that the non support is dance related, but whatever, I’m over wondering about it.
Next up is Caley Carr, surfer, skateboarder, mustache wielder, and tapper. He tells the judges that he started dancing because of his sister, watching her take class, and I immediately think of A Chorus Line. I sort of wish he had used that for his audition!
He doesn’t, but he what he does do is a pretty mean tap routine. I just wish he wasn’t so “quirky”. And I put that in quotes because it feels like an act. The dancing is good, but I think this one will annoy more than Robert ever did (and y’all know how much that was!).
