Time for Eliana and Cyrus. They’ll be dancing a jive choreographed by Tony and Melanie. I’m happy to see Tony and Melanie (LOVE HER!) but I have to admit, I’m super scared of a Cyrus jive.
Ummmmm…..yeah. I felt like this dance was in slo motion. A jive is supposed to be fast and upbeat. This was painful (with a capital P and that rhymes with B and that stands for bottom). I will say that Cyrus did a good job of partnering Eliana, he was definitely there for her, but this routine was definitely dumbed down for him.
Mary gives Cyrus some critique on his technique but says what she loves about him was that he was there for his partner every step of the way. Plus he still looked like he was having the time of his life. She says Eliana’s star is still shining and she admires her so much.
Adam is amazed that Cyrus got through it and says there is a totally a reason why he is on the show. He calls Eliana the hardest working in show business because not only did she look good, but she also made Cyrus look good.
Nigel thinks this is a good time to point out that there is a new format for picking dances. As has been mentioned in the comments of my last recap, the dancers this year are picking numbers and then in that order they get to pick which style dance they want to have for that week. I have to say again that I absolutely HATE that because it allows the ones lucky enough to draw a lower number to completely avoid any genre that is difficult for them. SO STUPID.
Anyway, Nigel asks what they had left to choose from at this point and Cyrus says fox trot, argentine tango, jive, and Bollywood. Cyrus let Eliana choose and she chose the jive. Nigel says they knew what they were getting when they chose Cyrus, so they know that sometimes he’s going to hit a brick wall. This is one of those times.
Let’s move on to Daniel and Alexa. They’ve got a contemporary piece choreographed by Dee Caspary. Both Daniel and Alexa tell us how important it is for them to connect in this piece. I have doubts about whether or not that’s even possible.
YUCK. This is such a terrible pairing. These two have zero chemistry together so even though they are really good technically, they leave me ice cold. I’m blaming Alexa for this since we already know she has issues with emotions, but I really wish Daniel was able to break through that instead of allowing it to cripple him as well. Bleh.
