We begin our story, well the second episode of our story, in China. Shanghai is not only home to 8 million people it also brings to mind Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson’s antics in the popular Shanghai Blank series of movies.
The teams are:
Abbie and Ryan – Team Choke Out
Amy and Daniel – Team Amy
Rob and Kelley – Team Truckasaurus
Caitlin and Brittany – Team Sporty
Natalie and Nadiya – Team Win N’s.
James and Abba – Team Mama Mia
Josh and Brent – Team Goat Boys
Trey and Lexi – Team Friday Night Lights (FNL)
Will and Gary – Team Tall & Tiny
James and Jaymes – Team Dong
“She’s a brick and I’m drowning slowly!”
Abbie and Ryan, Team Choke Out will depart first at 5:35 am. They rip open their shiny yellow clue and see that they are on their way to Surabaya, Indonesia. Phil calls it the “City of Heroes.” Catchy nickname for a city! I hope they just don’t mean local heroes. That’d be super boring. Once they land they have to go over a fancy bridge, which is no doubt some sort of famous landmark, and make their way to the Alun Alun Stadium to find their next clue. Abbie notes that the winner of today’s leg will win the express pass. Ryan grunts, “YEAAAHHH!” He’s sweating behind his knee caps and other awkward places because he’s so excited/roided out. Team Choke Out brags about being in first place, but they get humble for long enough to take in how scary it is to be in first place, because they are an even bigger target to other teams than they were before.
“We’ve each been married THIS many times.”
Team Amy (with Daniel) leave second one minute later. Caitlin and Brittany, Team Sporty, leave third. Natalie and Nadiya the Twin N’s leave fourth. They remind us that they grew up in Sri Lanka therefore they are not afraid of third world countries and that beggars are their homeboys.
Rob and Kelley, Team Truckasaurus, are fifth to depart at 6:08 am. They reveal their story, Rob was Kelley’s husband’s best friend. The husband died in a terrible accident so Rob was there for Kelley and her son to rebuild their lives. Sounds like the perfect plot for a Hallmark original movie. Except this takes place in the monster truck circuit, so maybe it belongs on Spike TV.
“Remember when your husband died? That was so romantic.”
At the airport all of the teams seem to be getting on the same flight except for Rob and Kelley, who chose a different flight that has a four hour layover in Hong Kong. All the other teams have a layover in Jakarta. James and Abba, Team Mama Mia, manage to get standby tickets on an earlier flight to Surabaya.
I think the guy on the right choked to death on an egg.
If you like it, spread it!:

Is it just me, or does the guy on Team Amy (I won’t even bother giving him a name) look like the type of guy who would crash on your couch “for one night” and still be there six months later?
That has to be the quickest Philimination of one of my ponies ever.
I have a love/hate relationship with the TwinNs. You can’t not like them, because they’re so damn excited and happy and nice, but they need to tone it the hell down.
Right now I’m having a hate/hate relationship with Team “I’ll call him George” (that would be Tall and Tiny). So, they freak out about stupid balloons, practically give up every time things get bad, but then can’t be bothered to run to the finish or seem to care about the race. And these are the people teaching kids. You know what they say: “Those who can’t do, go on the Amazing Race and whine about balloons”
Other than that, I can’t think of anyone else this season. Seriously, they’re all blanding together (and yes, I spelled it that way intentionally). I’m sure someone will show up eventually. But for now, the Philiminations have no impact on me.
Is it just me or does the guy on team Amy look like T.J Lavins long lost cousin? Thats all I could think while looking at him 0-o
@JJB – (read you comment, scroll back up the page) OMG, that is perfect.
Did anyone else get annoyed with Team Amy Amy’s veneer lisp? I always hate it when a team comes in last simply because of a cab driver but I guess that is a huge part of this race.
Do they plan out the whole race before they cast the racers? Or the other way around? It will be interesting to see if they go to India this season.
That kid next to Phil was wickedly cute, she should travel around with Phil the whole time and do that.
I like the idea of the cutie kid traveling around with Phil.
You can call Jaymes and James Team Dong but they’ll be Team Delicious to me.
Uh, team Tall and Tiny seem like a “couple” to me. I’m saying that because of the way they interact with each other. That’s not how you behave when you’re with a friend; that’s how you behave when you’re with your lover.
Drat. Didn’t expect my favorite team to be gone so soon. Darned incompetent taxi drivers!
@Jimbob Jones, your portmanteau “blanding together” is the perfect description of the remaining racers.
I’m sure I’ll find SOMEone to care about, but right now I could not care less. I DO care about your wonderful recaps, Fran and Berry, and will continue to eagerly await them every week.
@carol,she probably talks that way because she’s deaf in one ear.Hearing impairments very often affect your ability to speak correctly.
I was sad to see them go,esp. because of the bad taxi driver luck.I liked them.I think Amy is an incredibly inspirational person.
Totally agree about that little girl.OMG she is just too adorable.
@Jimbob: Totally agree the contestants are “blanding” in this season. Snore. We need at least one (but preferably two) teams we can all hate on. Makes the show more interesting.
I’m sure I’m just delusional (or conspiracy nutso)…but…the first thing that popped into my head when Team Amy got eliminated was that something was were afoot (no pun intended). Shenanigans? Could Amy have done every crazy-ass stunt/amazing feat/physical freakshow that AR usually puts them up to? What if they have some super cool new shit to foist upon the contestants, but knew Amy couldn’t have done them?
A planned out/planted/cab driver/actor? Hmmmm.
