When Carrie approaches Dad to talk about the Interview internship, Dad tells her he is proud of her for doing so well at the job. It was SO hard for him to secure that position for her. Uh oh, now Carrie feels guilty… after all she met George as a result which is a huge bonus. Dad confesses he always wanted Carrie to follow in his footsteps and become a lawyer too. He really feels, as a lawyer, he is able to help people- for example how he helped Sebastian out with his “Hot for Teacher” situation. Dad thinks Sebastian isn’t such a bad guy after all. She has such a good head on her shoulders… saved by the bell- the phone rings, it’s Larissa- she got Carrie’s number from the Law Firm. Clearly before the days of confidentiality. Larissa wants to know “Where on earth is 203??” (Connecticut area code)
Clearly NOT catching on that i’m a teenager
Carrie explains she is at her Dad’s house helping him and Larissa says “Well it’s Monday! I need an answer on the Internship.” Carrie points out that it is, in fact, Thursday. Larissa says “Oh. Well, I need an answer on Monday, and it better be yes!”
At school, Carrie tells Sebastian she was happy that Donna was cool about Sebastian being over at her house for Thanksgiving. And then she spouts out a bunch of other crap. Carrie catches herself, and wonders why she just says EVERYTHING that comes to mind… she should really shut up.
Diarrhea of the Mouth
Sebastian explains he told Donna so Carrie wouldn’t feel badly. Plus, Sebastian likes how Carrie just says whatever is on her mind- unlike Donna who only shows what she wants him to see.
In another hallway, Mouse is stalking her teacher about her “bad” grade- Mouse begs the teacher to allow her to do extra credit to bring her grade up. The teacher relents, handing Mouse a test- the approximate thickness of War & Peace- Mouse needs to hand in the extra credit completed and on her desk BY 8PM. The teacher is going to the Winter Dance and will not be late. Mouse is like- Oh f*ck it’s longer than the original test!!!
As Carrie gets ready for the dance, and envelope arrives from the Law Firm. I
My parents so would have ripped that envelope right open
nside is a copy of Interview Magazine featuring Carrie’s purse and the headline she helped Larissa write. I have to say- Anna Sophia Robb is, like, cute as a freaking button- especially all dressed up for the dance.
At the dance Mouse gets Mags to distract Seth so Mouse can run off and finish her extra credit. A short time later, Seth catches Mouse working on the test and they laugh about Mouse being the biggest nerd ever. Mouse finishes her extra credit and goes to drop off the test at the teacher’s office- only to find it locked. She slides the paper under the door and it slides under the desk, hidden from view.
The Great Mouse Caper
If you like it, spread it!:

ugh, i was hoping we were rid of larissa, too. i can’t stand her. and how she still (still? ever did) thinks carrie is a “grown woman” is beyond me. or why she would think a “grown woman” would quit her so-called job to do a stupid internship at a magazine. HELLO, LARISSA?! wtf is wrong with you? seriously, go away already.
i want carrie’s dance dress. seriously. although it seems a little outlandish for just a random school dance (even in the ’80s? someone help me out here. maybe it wasn’t).
i was actually sad about the mouse-seth breakup. they were so cute and nerdy, all heartbroken over losing their relationship for the sake of some a-pluses.
Finally, George steps up at the end of this episode and represents for the guys i remember in back high school. That dress would have been awesome in the 80′s, but our tea length ones had less rhinestones and more big bows (big bows were a trend – either in front across the boobs or on the back).
I have a brain fart every Monday at 8:00pm. I don’t know why, but I always think the show is on at 9:00.
Maybe I can’t get into this because I liked the group dynamic in Sex and this is just Carrie and all her suburban weirdness.
I think Sebastian and Donna should have a baby together just so we can see what its lips would be like. Yes, these are fictional characters, but work with me here, people.
Oh, and thank you MisRed for the pic of the still-hot-at-68 Tom Selleck.
Carrie’s makeup at the dance is so late 90s that I can’t see anything else (I didn’t watch the episode, I just read your awesome recaps). It looks like she’s wearing CoverGirl Ice Slicks. Does anyone else remember those pencils?
