Devyn, who has some GUNS by the way, pretends she’s holding up some really heavy shoes and other girly things as her very Devyn way of coping with the pain. It’s immediately clear that everyone is gunning for Brooklyn, so she and Chet put up a fight for a while before Devyn decides that she should save some energy for the ARENA. Also noteworthy: when the team members who are holding the basket drop it, the team members who were running for rocks are also out.
With Brooklyn out, everyone moves on to Fresh Meat, where Big Easy will not go down without a fight. Not only is he holding up the crate while pretty much every single person is putting rocks in his basket, but he’s trash talking them the whole time. It is so freaking awesome, and great to see him in a challenge where he can really shine. My favorite is when he asks what happens when they run out of room, and if they get another basket.
And lest you think he was exaggerating about them running out of room… he was not.
Anyway, he fights for a while, but he knows it’s futile and probably decides to save a bit of energy for the ARENA. I’m okay with these alliance/strategy challenges every other episode, as long as the other ones focus on straight-up competition. We need at least a half and half balance, here. Camila thinks it’s unfair, since her team has done nothing to have this target on their backs. Other than, you know, being the only non-Real World team and also some of the most experienced players on this Challenge.
Look who’s suddenly worried about ‘fair’ now that Bananas isn’t around.
Once the non-alliance members are eliminated, the alliance kind of starts bitching and whining at each other about who put how many rocks in whose basket, while Trey and Laura seem to give up fairly quickly. I guess they know they’re safe for this challenge, so why waste the energy? Let the higher ups in the alliance take care of things? Surprisingly, San Diego is the next team out, after Zach’s heavily-previewed outburst.
Jemmye and Knight drop New Orleans’ basket next, much to Nany’s relief since she doesn’t trust that team at all anymore. It’s down to Jonna and CJ for Cancun vs. Nany and Alton for Las Vegas, and in the end Cancun wins it (possibly due to the extra rocks NOLA put in Vegas’ basket), much to the relief of the alliance.
Back at the house, the alliance gathers for a meeting with Robb and Marie. Apparently no one trusts Trey and Laura (okay, really just Trey), and Robb and Marie are PISSED (well, Robb’s quiet about it, but he’s pissed) that they went along with the plan only to potentially have it bite them in the ass. Marie goes on one of her classic rants, which is even more awesome when she’s sober than it is when she’s drunk. As the teams gather for the announcement, we head to a commercial break, but not before we learn that Derek will be speaking for his team.
Congrats, buddy! Enjoy your moment! See you in three episodes.
