This just in!!! The Sacramento Kings are moving to Seattle! Adrienne Maloof is now 550million dollars richer…or she gets a third of that…yeah, there is Basketball back in Seattle! Well ok not until next season
I miss Benny Hill!
@thisbuggs4u-I’m so excited we’re getting basketball back! Can’t wait for the new arena tho!
@nikna-it will be nice. I honestly think that Hanson should just put his money into fixing up the Key. I mean the Thunderbirds don’t even play there anymore…Then again I can drive the 10 minutes to watch the Silvertips, but you know what I mean. Lower Queen Anne will be alive again with Basketball fans starting next season.
Yeah, I agree that would be a great choice instead of building a new arena, actually should be the first choice. It is awesome to have the air abuzz with people out and about around the Key. Happiness is contagious when stuff is happening around the Center. The new arena would be closer to me but I don’t care about that, if I want to do something or enjoy an activity I’ll drive to it no matter how far. We’ll drive an hour any direction to go out to dinner!
LOL! Heck you can probably catch one of the many busses that will go from Sodo it Lower Queen Anne. I used to work at Starbucks in Century Square. I was able to see a Sonics Game. Got to go for free with my manager, that was fun. Even in the nose bleed seats you could see all the court. Now as for a Tunderbirds game, not so much. Went one year on my birthday, we had “good seats” but not for a hockey game.
Fixing the Key was one of the things that the old owners of the Sonics did not want to do. If they would have, well we all know what would have happened.. fixing it would have benefited both Basketball and Hockey…But this is still good news for Seattle…
It is always nice finding another Seattle Fan here on the Gasm!
Yeah I never understood the old owners bullheaded stance on not wanting to fix the Key? It always bothered me that they just flat out said it was unfixable. I saw a few Sonics games at the Key, I had good and “bad” seats and I agree that they all were decent and you could see the entire court from anywhere. I’ve never went to a hockey game but would love to check one out. I agree I love finding other Seattle peeps on here
Oh, I also saw a Seahawks game once! At the Kingdome. Lol! Goes to show you how often I see sports related events! I’m more of a Paramount, 5th Ave, McCaw Hall kinda gal
So, I take it Seattle decided not only to build a new arena, but to also foot the bill? The Maloofs wanted a new arena in Sacrememnto but was trying to force the city into paying for it. The city wasn’t into it because why should they pay for something for the Maloofs to profit from? So Ad anf the fam looked at any city that would considering paying for a new arena, even Virgina at one point. I guess Seattle wins..I hope the taxpayers are happy.
I miss Benny Hill! My mom wouldn’t let us watch it so watching it anyway was one of my earliest acts of rebellion. Memories!
I have Never been to a Seahawks game! I have been to Mariners games, both at the Kingdome and Safeco. Hockey is fun! Then again I like to see em fight! When Tacoma had a hockey team we used to go to those often
I don’t think that the Key ever sold out, for Sonics games, but I can’t say that they did. I mean there were lots of basketball fans here. But I think it would have cost less to fix it up, and if I am correct the Thunderbirds owners were willing to pay some of it. It is obvious that the owners are greedy, look at the Maloofs! they didn’t want to sell the Kings last year, but Chris Hanson and his investors must have come to the table with the right amount!
@Sac, The investment group has already purchased land for the new arena. It is just a few blocks down from Safeco and Centurylink…Some people aren’t happy becasue of the location, but it keeps all the sports venues in the same area of So. Seattle. It is easy to get to by bus or light rail…But yes, the previous owners wanted bascially the Maloofs do now, that is why they went to Oklahoma City. The thing was though, they Key Arena wasn’t just for Basketball..If/When the Kings come here.. that is where they will be playing until the new arena is built. But it is bringing jobs back to Seattle….
They find out they aren’t fat, they just forgot to take off a fat suit they put on once.
Just sprayed banana all over my computer, thanks.
Also, I missed The Following.
@thisbuggs4u-I think you’re totally right that they could never sell out the Key. I don’t know that it was ever done for a Sonics game, at least not in recent years, maybe way back. Love going to Mariner’s games!!! Been to more of them than any other sport. Eeeww, I have see the damn Yanks every year because that’s Mr Flipflops team. I boo at him and then by the time it’s game over he’s taunting “told you so!” at me. Aaahh, such a peaceful afternoon. I WILL get to a hockey game
Also, no excuses this year I’m going to a Sounders game. I’ve been saying that for a few years but it will happen! Have you ever been to the Key for anything other than hockey or basketball? I was really trying to think hard and I seriously haven’t ever been inside except for Sonics games.
@sarcasatire-the investment group who advocated all this and has been working on it is putting up $290 million of their money for the arena and the other $200 million is public money. KeyArena was declared inadequate 5 years ago by the NBA. They’re gonna have to sink major $ into it to get it up to par for the upcoming season. They’ll be playing there 2 years til the new arena is finished. There’s a ton of fighting going on tho, I seriously wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not done by then!
