Top Chef Masters Recap: Let’s get ready to Sauuuuuuuuteeeeeeeeee!

He realizes he only has 6 eggs and asks “Takashi-San” if he can have an egg.  Takashi generously says yes.   Chris worries “Anything can send me home at this point.”  With 1 minute left on the clock, Takashi realizes he is short 1 piece of bacon.  He says it out loud and Chris tells him to “Take it!”  

Take my bacon!!

And gives Takashi his extra piece of bacon that he cooked.  Both of these Chefs are a CLASS ACT.   Chris wants to win on merit, not on a technicality.

Time is up.  Takashi presents bacon steaks with apricot and fig, with an orange, endive and fennel salad.  Kerry notes that the mushrooms are unexpected and amazing.  Takahi’s salad is a huge compliment to this dish and Jane says it is an interesting dish.

Chris vs. Takashi

Chris’s dish is a Cal/Mex breakfast.  The egg is perfectly cooked.  Sugar Ray loves it, but calls the Avocado slice guacamole.

The winner is:  CHRIS

Takashi will have to fight the loser of the Patty vs Lorena battle to be safe from elimination. UGH.  I hope he has to kick Lorena’s ass.

Next on the card is Patricia vs Lorena.  Lorena says “The only person who can put Patricia in her place is me.”    Everyone else is so gracious and professional. Well, not me, but I’m not actually ON the show.    Again we are faced with a chrome cloche.  Curtis unveils their mystery ingredient:  BACON.  Well, at least it’s a completely fair fight.

Good vs Less Good

Lorena springs right into action starting to make a chowder with cilantro.  Jeez, I love cilantro too, but I don’t put it in absolutely every single dish I make.  Patricia is very cool and calm, methodically prepping her food.  Her first thought is to make a BLT, but since she doesn’t have any lettuce or bread, it’s not a possibility.  Patricia does have leeks so she will use that to make a salad.

Whoever is the loudest and most annoying wins, right?

Lorena is hot-dogging chopping her “stuff” loudly.  Patricia makes note of it saying that it’s not the proper way to use a knife.  (She’s right- if you can hear it, you are doing it wrong.)  Patricia is done early and starts cleaning up.  Her dish is simple and clean.

Patricia presents a Bacon, Leek and Tomato Salad.  The Critics think the flavors are balanced and it is delicious.  Well, except for James.  

Since you don’t have tanned, chiseled abs, I’ll criticize your leek reduction

    After Lorena won her round, I switched channels. Anyone other than SHE going home is a travesty. I think that Super Creep Oseland is trying to throw the competition to her.

    Ugg- I was so disappointed with the outcome. I wanted Lorena to get the boot. The more I see her, the more I dislike her. Her “positive”attitude is so aggressively negative and those Taco Bell commercials during the show don’t help to make her likeable.

    MisRed, I love the chef side notes! And the recaps are entertaining, as always. :)

    I was so mad when it came down to Patricia and Takashi because I didn’t want either to go home. I, too, wanted Lorena to get the boot. I want a do-over.

    I wonder what the other chefs think about Lorena hawking for Taco Bell. She destroyed her credibility before the competition ever started in my way of thinking. I want her to get a tummy ache from eating too much cilantro so they can bring Takashi back.

    And I thought the dishes that they made looked and sounded yummy (Pat and Takashi, that is).

    I also hated that Lorena got to stay. She is so incredibly fake, with all her exaggerated mannerism and attempts at appearing funny and cute. She is a total attention whore with even bigger stealth douchiness that Art….she drives me up the wall.

    I’m sad that Takashi left, but I’m hoping that Patty will have another chance to take Lorena down.

    Guys – I agree with all of you who aren’t fans of Lorena!!! She’s just too in your face with all her happiness and exhuberance. It just comes off as incredibly phony. Not only did she stay, she won. I wanted her to get the boot as well and hated to see Takashi go. He seems like a sweet and genuine guy, as well as an excellent chef. I’m rooting for Patricia. PLEASE don’t let Lorena win it all!

    I cannot STAND Lorena – and was hoping that I missed something in the last 3 minutes – and they pulled a Project Runway and everyone stayed. I don’t know what happened after Lorena’s hand was raised (and she beat Chris), because Hubby – who doesn’t even really LIKE this show, but watches it with me, was so pissed that she beat Chris that he shut off the tv and threw our remote across the room.

    Seriously, if you can make my Hubby dislike you that much (and yes, the Taco Bell commercials are NOT helping you, Lorena), then you’ve got talent. We were hoping for a Patrica, Chris, Takashi final 3, Kerry isn’t my favorite, but I can deal with him. :( CHRIS OR PATRICIA (and her mole) FOR THE WIN!

    (But mostly Chris. He’s a classy rock star in the kitchen.)

    I also wanted Lorena to go home. Takashi’s food looks amazing and he’s such a classy guy. At least he’s already won a ton of money (20K) for his charity.

    I guess I’m rooting for Patricia now. Takashi was my favorite and my pick to win. I love Japanese people they’re just so wonderfully weird. I was hoping Lorena or Kerry would go home. Lorena for obvious reasons. And there’s just something about Kerry that bugs me. I’m not sure what it is.

    No, Patricia lost to Lorena and then competed against Takashi (who lost to Chris) – Takashi went bye bye. Patricia (and her mole) are still here! :D

    And like basically everyone here, I can’t stand Lorena. I can’t understand how she won a bacon challenge if they couldn’t taste the bacon in her dish. But hey, I never understood (and propably never will) the rules of elimination in food shows.

    Also, I found Chris very nice now that Art is gone, no one left to boss around ^^. So I guess now that Takashi is gone, I’m rooting for Chris or Patricia. Even Kerry. But please, not Lorena, she scares the shit out of me.

    What in the entire fuck happened?
    It’s bad enough that my beloved pocket monster had to go home, but the fact that Kerry and fucking loudmouth Lorena were the ones to send him there is just too much bear.
    I freaking don’t like Kerry. I agree with @sagittariuskim that there is just something about him that is a turn off, but it’s not really possible to articulate what it is.

    And Lorena.
    This bitch.
    Can’t clean up after herself, can’t employ simple problem-solving skills, works for Taco Bell, always has to be the loudest one in the room, desperately trying to embody the feisty latina stereotype even though no one likes it, can’t even make hot chocolate without putting cilantro into that shit, one way monkey Lorena. Beat Takashi. Not only did she beat Takashi, but she beat everyone else too.
    What in the entire whole fuck though.

    I wonder if Taco Bell is paying Bravo to keep her on, because I fail to see how a chowder with a sprinkle of bacon can beat a balanced and clean dish with a big ass hunk of perfectly cooked bacon. When bacon is supposed to be the star.
    And I know Curtis knows how annoying she is! He sat with her on a panel for that dumb restaurant show and had to listen to her screech about passion day in and day out. He knows!
    I am so mad at this whole thing right now.

    Chris needs to win the whole shebang and that’s all I have to say on the matter.

    And MisRed, I love that you caught Craig from TC:JD in the audience. Just the sight of him makes me burst into laughter. If I were him, I’d never show up to any Top Chef anything ever again. God, he was so awful. I hope he’s better now.
