Top Chef Masters Recap: The Tribe Has Spoken

The elders were so honored to see the use of the deer and the banana yucca.  The critics agree that Thierry had the most challenging ingredient.   Patricia and Chris really honored the ingredients and they loved their preparation.

The winning team will split $10,000 for their charities.  And the winners are:  Takashi (Red Cross Japan) and Thierry (Food Lifeline)

The critics want to see everybody else.  Art and Lorena and Clark and Kerry had the critics least favorite dishes.

Our Favorites?  Not so much

While the critics loved the prickly pear BBQ sauce, they felt the Quail was really overcooked.  Art should have split the Quail so he could cook them more easily.  Additionally, it was difficult to eat wrestle with a whole quail.  Art didn’t split them for “presentation purposes.”  Well, yeah, a whole cow looks lovely on a platter, but they don’t serve them that way FOR A REASON.  Clark and Kerry they had a challenge to get a good sear on the beef.  The pistou was good, but the other sauce was a turnoff.  All of the elements were soft.  And they asked if Clark made both sauces or one of the sauces… No, he didn’t.  So Kerry made the Beef and both sauces… so Clark made corn?  Wait, Clark made “bland succotash,”  that’s the exact wording.

Lorena has immunity. So that leaves FArt, Kerry and Clark.

And…Clark is OUT. He graciously thanks the critics and tells them what a wonderful experience it has been. He’s sad to go, but I’m sure he is happy to go home to Mark.

The Last Train to Clarksville…

See you next week, kids!! If you like it, spread it!

MisRed, I love your recaps, just wish you’d post more pictures of the foods!

That place is beautiful, but I hate these outdoor cooking! Do they have a place to wash their hands?

I actually watched this show at it’s regular east coast airtime, complete with commercials. I almost never do that. I am glad that I did so this time. I enjoyed the episode, but for me the most entertaining part was a commercial that aired early in the episode. It was for Ragu pasta sauce. It was a tragic drama about a boy who accidently sees his parents having sex, it features a tragic country song and a happy ending shot of the boy smothering his pain by eating a big plate of pasta. I still don’t want to eat Ragu or listen to country music, but that commercial literally made me LOL.

@Detinha thanks for saying something- I struggle sometimes with what pictures to grab. (And grabbing pix from this show can be difficult due to evil Bravo…) So if you guys want more food pix- you shall have them next week!! I love the plates too, but I’m a chef /food geek, so I don’t like to assume that everyone is that interested. But I’m glad you are and I will post more food pix.

Also… cooking outside- a health inspector should have come to inspect that site. I’m sure they did to get permits, etc. But you are legally required (at least you are in my state) to have a hand washing station with HOT water and a sanitizing bucket- which I did see in the episode (it’s a square red bucket).

@awfuleyebrow, I live for that commercial. The look of horror on the little boy’s face and the way that he’s willing to sit down to dinner with his parents like nothing happened because of the Ragu always brings me to tears. Mostly because I too am a fat kid who will forgive a multitude of sins in exchange for something tasty.

I think I have a little chef crush on Chris. I didn’t really like him too much in the beginning, but he’s definitely grown on me. I also want to put Takashi in my pocket.
Lorena is so annoying though….the first time I met her was on the next great american restaurant and I wanted to put my foot through my tv every time she spoke. This is still true even unto today. Like damn son, take a chill pill. She and Art need to bring it down a notch or several or one hundred.

    Love is truly bacon.

Hey MisRed, a suggestion: BravoTV.com (generally) posts all the pictures of the food for every episode (it’s what I use for regular Top Chef), that way you don’t have to struggle to get a clear picture out of those annoying tracking shots they make where they sail over the dish like it is floating by. Hope that’s helpful!

    love, J-Mo :)

RE: Washing hands, I cringe when I see some people on TV (chefs or wannabes) touching meat, touching the salt..even the chefs that I love, like Ming and Jacques Pepin are guilt of that! And don’t even let me start on Rachael Ray and her dirty fingernails! Eeww!

Seeing people touching food doesn’t bother me, since everybody touches food when cooking.

I don’t have much to say about this episode. I think the right people won. And the right person went home. I do remember being nervous about how close to cliff they were when watching. Like Takashi, me and heights aren’t the closest friends.

Oh, I meant touching meat and not washing their hands before proceeding touching everything else, like the salt…when I’m cooking I wash my hands every time is possible, so I can’t imagine cooking in a place without a sink and a faucet.

I realized that I would rather cooks touch food with bare hands that are washed often than with gloves after watching a “sandwich artist” at Subway make a sub with the same gloves that he wore when he took somebody else’s money and made change at the cash register.

Oh yeah, that defeats the purpose of gloves, doesn’t? I don’t mind the bare hands, what makes me crazy is dirty hands cross contaminating everything! After touching meat they should wash their hands.

MisRed, thank you for the wonderful recaps and the willingness to put more food porn in.

I am with Takashi on the heights thing, especially this sadistic (if visually stunning) trend of glass walkways. Of course, I am the person who had a panic attack in the head of the statute of liberty a number of years ago (“Oh, my God! We are in her head! I see her nose!!!”)

I am not looking forward to the Art and Christopher fireworks.

@Detinha – word to that sentiment!!

My dream is to see Lorena’s chyron identify her restaurant not as Lorena Garcia Cocina but as Taco Bell. That alone would make it worth watching her.

And she and Art need to get a room.

I saw another commercial recently involving parental sex that was just gross. Mr. Jack in the Box is playing scrabble with his hot wife and makes up a George Bush type word for his new food. They argue for awhile, then he takes the points, then she writes “No Nookie” with her tiles. Just the thought of having any kind of nookie with JIB with that big head is disturbing. Plus Mr. JIB is married to a JIB Shiksa, I am sure his parent would prefer a girl with a big white head!!! I remember when they did one with the whole family and I thought about having to give birth to that head, YIKES! I guess I am too literal.

Ah, fast (and not so fast) food workers and gloves. Too many of then seem to think the gloves are for THEIR safety and don’t realize that handling money, washing countertops/tables then making food ALL WITH THE SAME GLOVES ON kinda defeats the actual purpose of the gloves.

And this is why we so rarely eat out.
