Next up, the wild cards.
Ugh. This one. Still a strident, overpainted showgirl. I’m sure Shannel’s act is great, too bad Shannel’s performing it. Whoever heard of a humorless drag queen…excuse me female illuuuuuuuuuusionist? But she can paint and she does have some cramazing costumes and she can juggle, so she’ll make it to the midway, and may even beat out a few other wild cards, but I don’t expect her to be in the top group. Of course, she did stage her big moment of “vulnerability” in her season, so she may have some Showgirls tricks up her sleeve.
Saw her on the Drag Race tour, too, and…she was rather sweet when I told her my father was from a town not far from her own. Held on to me for dear life as she was being bombarded by various fans wanting her picture (Seriously, I felt so bad for her and Raja because it was IN-SANE.) so I know there are a bunch of gay men in WeHo wondering who the bitch is who photobombed their picture with Alexis. As for her chances, she might get close to the top group because she is polished but Ru isn’t a big fan of the pageant queens.
Unpopular opinion #2…Santino was right. (GAHHHHH…UGGHHH…ARRRGH) Watching her on Drag U, especially in the episode with Sharon and Raja, her looks are kind of amateurish. I know she’s more of a character queen, but she had no specific “Pandora” character and fades when surrounded by bigger, bolder queens. Of course, her popularity with the audience might push her through to the top group because Ru ain’t stupid.
Unpopular opinion #3…Latrice is not that great a queen. Tim’s funny and engaging and charismatic and that carries over into Latrice’s performances to an extent but anything other than being the grand dame or a comic queen and Latrice is at a loss. Still, Latrice can be an imposing figure on the runway which might keep her safe into the later rounds when there are fewer people to pick off.
So, so, so funny. Probably the most naturally funny queen until Willam and I still laugh at this:
But when she was off, which was just as often, she froze. She was able to ride her natural charm into the final three on season 2 and will probably be able to ride it close to the end this time, but I think fifth is the end of the line for Jujubee because the final four are just more polished and less easily flustered.
Finally, the contenders! Or as I like to think of them, the ones who probably really should have won their season. And Raven.
