TV critics award their favorites

The TV Critics Association Awards last night wrapped up a week of dog-and-pony-show previews by network suits with an awards cereminy that honored Mary Tyler Moore for career achievement-- and gave consolation prizes to some of those snubbed in the Emmy nominations.

Friday Night Lights, the struggling drama that NBC wants everyone to like, wasn't troubled by an Emmy nom Thursday morning, but the TV critics voted it best new drama.

Jerry Seinfeld to appear on 30 Rock

Jerry Seinfeld is returning to NBC situation comedy. He'll pay himself in the miraculous, almost-didn't-get-there second-season premiere of 30 Rock.

Did Dora send Alec Baldwin over the top?

We didn't jump on the Alec Baldwin answering machine story when it broke because it was a cheap shot from a sleazy gossip website run by people who don't have kids; a private matter that involved an eleven-year-old girl. But then Alec fired his agents, tried to quit his TV series, turned to Dr. Phil for advice (just as Pat O'Brien did when his phone machine messages destroyed his image) and today spills his guts to Rosie O'Donnell, the only celebrity perceived as more liberal, dislikeable and fat than himself.

And now, there's word that Baldwin has thrown his career into disarray, not because of Kim or Ireland-- but Dora The Explorer!

Tina Fey to live blog tonight's 30 Rock finale

If we had the chance, we'd have lots of questions for Tina Fey.

The star and creator of NBC's 30 Rock saw her show grow from an amateurish, patchy, not-ready-for-prime-time sketch comedy joke to the funniest comedy on TV, all in one herky-jerk season. She's also seen the femme-centric series, based around the fictional Girlie Show, edge out the other women in the cast in favor of comic wonders Jack McBrayer, Tracy Morgan and Alec Baldwin. She saw her own days as a TV sex symbol end the minute she stood up from behind the Saturday Night Live Weekend Update desk--only to become the standard bearer for chunky, loveless career gals-who-are-one-of-the-guys...

Anyway, tonight we-- and you-- can ask away. Tina will be blogging live during tonight's season finale of 30 Rock, and the folks at NBC have personally invited all TVgasm and Newsgasm contributors and readers to post questions and comments.

Alec Baldwin wants out of '30 Rock'!

Bad news for Tina Fey. With her NBC comedy 30 Rock finally firing on all cylinders as it nears the end of its first seaon tomorrow tonight-- and the critic for the LA Times getting so excited that he compared her to Mary Tyler Moore (yeah, the Cleveland version, maybe), the real star of the series is melting down and declaring that he wants out of the show-- and out of TV altogether!

Alec Baldwin, embarrassed, humiliated and ashamed that a raging voicemail message he left his daughter generated more public outrage than the ravings of the Virginia Tech killer that NBC merrily promoted as an exclusive the day before, taped an appearance on The View this morning in which he expressed his desire to quit his TV series.
