The Amazing Race is rushing toward the finish line of its 10th season, but the first Asian version got underway only last week. Now you can watch the entire first episode of The Amazing Race Asia, as ten teams set off from Kuala Lumpur in a race for $100,000. Not quite the million dollar jackpot that Phil Keoghan offers, but probably a pretty penny in Bangla Desh. All the contestants speak English and there even appears to be at least one gay couple among them-- though they're identified only as "best friends of ten years," probably to avoid a ban (or beheading) in one of the Asian franchise countries. Host Allan Wu is a Californian who's best known here for his appearance on Fear Factor-- and he makes Phil look like a pipsqueak, so it's just like watching The Amazing Race from the Bizarro world.

While the host is nowhere near as good as Phil, the contestants seem like every other contestant on TAR. In other words it should be fun. But am I going to have to watch the whole thing on youtube?!?! With all the channels in this country there must be someone who's going to buy and broadcast, right?

I so hoped someone on this site would say something about this show. I came upon it whilst waiting for the Amazing race on YouTube and I love it.
The music is damned irritating at times, but overall the show is cool and follows the format really well.
The dude with the muscles and the waaaaay too tiny shirt is hilarious. He'd be so gay in America, but he's just English. :P
The gay couple are sweet, even though it's kinda sad they have to be called "best friends".
