Blake or Jordin?

blake.jpgjordin.jpg

We'd have to say our favorite moment in last night's American Idol was that audience shot of Academy Award-winning actress Marlee Matlin applauding enthusiastically. She's deaf.

So after a season dominated by charismatic characters like Antonella Barba and Sanjaya Malakar, "America" decides tonight between fashionplate Blake Lewis and controversial anti-abortion advocate and corporate sponsor favorite Jordin Sparks.

The judges say he's a "performer" and she's the "singer."

But despite his stylish sweaters and untucked shirtfronts, Blake wasn't exactly Prince up there on the stage of the Kodak Theatre. And Jordin proved to be quite a little performer herself, lying at least twice in last night's show...

...once in an interview segment, saying she feared she wouldn't be able to audition in Seattle because the crowds were so big-- she was flown there by the sponsors-- and when she faked those tears while wrapping that super Idol contest-winning song-- a ditty that was almost as good as last year's "Do I Make You Proud?"-- and that was written by pros!

So who's it going to be? Blake or Jordin? The "performer" or the "singer"?

Acorrding to the Internet research firm Hitwise, Blake's got the edge. But the prediction site DialIdol has Jordin by a landslide.

This was a setup. Doolittle and Sparks are remarkable similar in singing styles but Doolittle is so much better, including at performing. Someone clearly didn't want her in the finale but they brought her far enough so that she'd get a Daugtry or Aikens career. My last time watching AI. The reality shows these days are as bad as in the days of Quiz Show.

Fuller and Lythgoe should be absolutely ASHAMED of themselves. They should have pulled the plug on the contest thing and gone out and got a proper craptastic song.

That "winning" song is the worst piece of literary trash in the history of the alphabet!!

Here's what Kathy Griffin said to Marlee: "Why are you here? You're deaf!" and Marlee responded "Shhh. Don't tell anyone. I've been faking it all these years." There was a moment of silence and then the two started laughing hysterically. Kathy asked if she could use that in her act and Marlee said with her blessings.
