"I just think he's so phenomenal.
I just can't believe I saw him live.
It was like a dream come true."
--Ashley Ferl on Sanjaya Malakar
Yes indeedy, just like The Hiccupping Girl, the 13-year-old who became a media sensation by guiding Sanjaya Malakar to American Idol's Top 10 on a trail of tears, has been pounced upon for exploitation by the mainstream media that usually looks down its nose at such silliness! Until we can get the video uploaded here, see Ashley Ferl the Crying Girl interviewed by the Today show host and journalist who also hosts the syndicated version of Who Wants To be A Millionaire by clicking here.
And though we'd all agree that Sanjaya deserved to make it through this week's round, the top Desi website (aimed toward the English-speaking East Asian community) is still a bit defensive about his win:
"...look for the biased media and fans to lay the blame squarely on him - something along the lines of 'The unholy nexus of desis, call centers, Sicilian Mafia, grandmas and bawling little girls has struck again. Shudder. What will happen to America'. While they may have succeeded in their goal of making Sanjaya reach the top 10, considering the quality of the contestants left standing, VFTW may have a hard time picking a favorite to root for..."
No need to be defensive until next week's performance!

She should be committed to a mental institution.
