A bizarre Idol flap has erupted over a British contestant-- and former pop star-- who's apparently made it to the Hollywood round. The UK Daily Star reports that a "furious contestant" is accusing Simon Cowell of planting him into the mix.
Tom Lowe was signed to BMG when Simon was at the label. His boy band, North and South, had a #2 hit in Malaysia, and he went on to star in a BBC series, in Cats on the West End, graduated from Harvard and he's got a band called Tommy & The Tigers.
At 28, he just made the cutoff to audition in Seattle. We don't remember him. Do you? Good reason: more bizarrely, Lowe wasn't seen in Idol here in the States-- only in the British broadcast (above).
Hey, that Canadian girl Jory Steinberg was enough of a stretch. But a British American Idol?
According to notoriously unreliable British tabloid reports, Tom reminded Simon of the connection and Simon said he didn't remember. On the clip, Simon plays dumb. As in not giving up anything.
C'mon, Simon, the guy starred in Cats!
(UPDATE: Nikki Finke says Tom Lowe has got quite a history of controversy... read all about it here.)

Wow, he's cute with his accent and his boyish good looks. Except, when he laughed at the beginning of the clip, that was not so attractive.
