For Katharine McPhee, it's Hollywood or bust!

Katharine McPhee may have been shunned from the season finale of American Idol, but the independent film world is waiting with open arms. The busty songstress will make her feature film debut in a "dark romantic comedy" called The Last Caller.

Why, when Season 5 alums Taylor Hicks, Chris Daughtry and Elliott Yamin all appeared on the jam-packed extravaganza, was "America's Sweetheart" (Ryan Seacrest's words)-- the last performer to bring real sexuality to the show (sorry, Haley)-- missing from the line-up? Even when she called producers personally to beg to be included?

That remains a mystery. As for today, it's good news for the breastalicious beauty with the announcement she'll star in the coming-of-age yarn as a self-obsessed woman who searches for love, hope and meaning. Shooting is scheduled to start in and around New York City in the fall, at the mini budget of $5 to $8 million.

And this little movie won't be another From Justin to Kelly, the Idol musical bomb that starred the Top 2 from Season One.

There won't be any singing.

Kat was the runner-up in Idol's Season 5, edged out by Taylor. Ironically, her first single and debut album both only made it as far as #2 on the charts, as well.

Earlier this year, she showed up in a guest role on the LonelyGirl15 web serial. Kat says she's up for a "couple of big studio projects," but nixed them because "they weren't starring roles.

"I wanted to start off doing something a little different. It's something that a lot of people wouldn't expect me doing."
