When ABC moved Dancing with The Stars to avoid the American Idol steamroller, the guy in charge of entertainment said "the great thing about this air schedule is that fans won't have to choose between the two reality hits."
Well, as Nelson Muntz from from The Simpsons would say: Ha ha!
You didn't think those rats at Fox would let them off that easy, did you? Next Tuesday, Fox is expanding the 8 pm Idol performance show by seven minutes-- so it overlaps with the first seven minutes of the Dancing results show. And who would you rather see? Idol mentor Gwen Stefani and Sanjaya's latest number-- or Paul McCartney's one-legged, former porn model, estranged wife and "charity campaigner" doing her best Oliver Twist?
Those of us who've produced television shows--and those who track the ratings-- know that the first seven minutes are crucial, because the seven-minute point is where Nielsen does its first audience count.
And what do you bet Idol gets McCartney as a guest in the coming weeks, to really make her leg fly off?
This is the first time that Dancing competitors get to perform two weeks before someone is sent home. It's a result Tucker Carlson being elminated after the first show last season. Many said he didn't have time to build a fan base. Like Tucker Carslon could build a fan base.
One last note: Check your TiVo to make sure it catches that extra seven minutes. We've been finding our Idol has been switching off before the end of Chris Daughtry's crummy exit song.

It's too bad American Idiot has to use tactics like extending the show to affect the ratings of DWTS (or as I like to pronounce it, "dwits").
Are they that desperate? I'll take a one-legged ex-Beatle f*$king porn star over an overrated singer (not Sanjaya) any day!

i think fox is pretty smart...between abc totally playing reruns on thurs. nites the last few weeks to now them messing w/ dancing w/ the stars, it seems like abc knows that fox will totally kick its butt! Fox is like the bully that ABC is afraid to stand up too, instead it just hands over the lunch money before they're even asked to :)
