Nigel Lythgoe, the Idol executive producer who put himself on the air as a judge in So You Think You Can Dance and made himself the star of the inexplicable vanity project Corkscrewed on the Fox Reality network, claims that network suits call the shots and he doesn't ask questions.
"We are informed at the end of the day (by Fox) that you can't invite this person or persons, and we don't ask why," he says. "To be frank, we're not interested. If Fox believes it will damage the show... then it's best they just don't come along."
Akron admitted he'd been arrested for marijuana back in 2003, but claimed Idols producers knew about it before he demonstrated his golden pipes.
Lythgoe, meanwhile, says he's planning an Idol All Star edition... if Fox says it's okay.
The producer says he wants to wants to tie the special show in with the songwriting competition, to find a catchy tune to sing in the finale. But they still haven't worked out details of how to run the contest.
"My idea is (for viewers) to give me 10 songs and then I'll bring back 10 Idol finalists to sing them on a special. I've pitched to Fox and they have yet to come back to me to say yes or no."

And what do you give to a previous winner if one of them win? That's what I thought. It won't work.
