So what's the big 'Idol' surprise?

simonpaulakiss.jpg

The drumbeat for the new season of American Idol is building. The promos are running for the two-hour premiere on January 16th, Lost has high-tailed it to 10 pm to get out of its way, and insiders say the early audition shows are up there with the worst of William Hung.

And now producers say they're working to top themselves with a giant event midway through the season " that will blow America away." And no, we don't think they're talking about the return of Clay Aiken.

Idol executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz tells the New York Daily News that something big is in the works. But she won't say what it is! "If there's one thing that makes 'American Idol' so big, it's a huge event. Something we're working on is a big-event show, sometime in the middle of the season, something that will blow America away."

Anyone want to help us spoil the surprise?

Great. A jump the shark moment in the making.

Paula won't be medicated or hammered for a whole episode? That would be the biggest surprise.

Or wait they'll swap the judging order by moving everyone over one seat to the right.
