The obesity expert who dared say that supersized American Idol Jordin Sparks could stand to lose a few pounds may have been reading the comments section in TVgasm (examples above)!
MeMe Roth of the group called National Action Against Obesity is getting more headlines complaining that there have been "hate posts calling for my death" ever since she went on Fox News to argue that plus-size model Jordin is overweight.
MeMe says she stands by her words: "When I look at Jordin I see diabetes, I see heart disease, I see high cholesterol.
"That's what's so sad about this; she is not the vision of health. She is the vision of 'unhealth.'"
But she insists she never called conservative Christian poster girl "obese."
MeMe tells our tabloid pal, the big & tall Jeannette Walls (six feet), that she admires the 17-year-old's talent and "effervescent personality," but that "her extra weight is a reflection of today's society and a culture where many of our children have compromised health due to unhealthful food choices and inactivity.
"We have to stop with the 'baby fat,' 'curvy,' 'goddess' euphemisms and own this child health crisis."
MeMe also observes that Jordin 'fessed up to her largeness in People magazine. "You'll also find Miss Sparks to be quite contradictory.. both declaring to 'love her body' just as it is, while at the same time, in the sidebar, advising other 'plus-size' females on how to dress slim."
Earlier, MeMe had emailed an enraged yet considerate TVgasm commenter Rock Star a similar explanation, adding: "I understand that you are upset. And while I believe my comments can be controversial, I'd also like to be certain it's my comments we're talking about. Also, I do believe it's fair, and even crucial, that we talk about child teen obesity in this country, regardless if it's taboo to use the word 'overweight.'"
(FUN FACT Jordin's hometown paper, the Arizona Republic, reported last month that when Jordin was 16, she "appeared in a Nashville production of Magdalene" and "was denied the lead role and given a supporting role because of her heavier weight.")
