Finale tonight: Does America have any talent?

Breaking news! America's Got Talent judge (and can somebody tell us why this Fleet Street newspaper hack is judging Americans?) Piers Morgan might not make it to tonight's finals of the summer's top-rated series because he broke some ribs when he crashed a Segway on the Santa Monica Pier over the weekend.

Well, we'll go out on a limb and wager he'll tape himself up and do whatever it takes to sit at the judge's table for tonight's live finale.

The real question is whether America's got any talent to begin with, since the four finalists for the million dollar first prize (which, as reality blurred informed us, "is actually worth $25,000 a year, or maybe just $375,000") are not exactly up there in the Dat Phan/Taylor Hicks/Bianca Ryan strata.

Boy Shakira exposed! And de-wigged!

Any reality show that votes Boy Shakira into its Top 20 finalists while sending the 3 Redneck Tenors home has to be on the up-and-up. And it's not too much of a spoiler to reveal that America's Got Talent did just that last night-- and this morning showcases them all-- including the flabulous, lisping, big-belly dancer out of drag. Or in drag.

The 30-year-old mama's boy and Shakira spitting image from San Diego is a a big hit on the YouTube , and though the pleather-clad judge David Hasselhoff doesnt profess to be a fan, we can see the two of them rolling around on the floor eating hamburgers togther.

No Hung jury on Britain's Got Talent

While America's Got Talent goes strong for another week with the likes of Boy Shakira, the original British version of the show wrapped up its season hours ago with a winner who looks like an EastEnders version of William Hung-- but sings a bit differently.

Paul Potts, a 36-year-old carphone salesman with Simon Cowell's old teeth, came out on top in Britain's Got Talent. Check out his first appearance on the show... and watch Simon appear to be genuinely blown away... after the jump...

Hasselhoff in embarrassing drunk video

With the celebutainment shows in a tizzy over video of a TV legend and tabloid tightrope walker stripped to the waist and drunk out of his gourd, video verite subject and self-described "recovering alcoholic" David Hasselhoff is putting the best possible spin on an embarrassing tape made while he was in Las Vegas performing in The Producers.

Just as the Alec Baldwin telephone scandal brought his 11 year-old daughter into the spotlight, so does this tape of the intoxicated Hoff include his daughters. They supposedly shot the tape as an intervention.

And now it's entertainment.

But Hasselhoff is rolling with the punch, issuing a statement through his attorney:

America's got Sharon Osbourne again

In the early years of this new century, we Americans have gotten used to being judged on foreign-imported network talent shows by panels including one middle-level American professional, one birdbrained or drug-addled female and one nasty witty British queen (see American Idol, American Inventor, Dancing with The Stars, Skating with Celebrities, etc., etc.). But the balance is about to be thrown out of whack this summer on NBC.

As rumoured for months and teaesd when she showed up in the audience of Idol, Sharon Osbourne will replace Brandy Norwood on the judge's panel when America's Got Talent returns for a second run on NBC this summer. Brit Piers Morgan will return as the snappish Brit and David Hasselhoff is back in the Paula Abdul role.
