Paris Hilton has cancelled out of tomorrow night's Billboard Music Awards show because the jokes written for her make fun of her friends.
Her spokesman Elliott Mintz said that Paris found some of the material "objectionable."
"It is my understanding that some satirical references ridiculed some of her peers," he said in a statement. "Paris did not want to say anything that could appear hurtful or embarrassing about people she knows."
Shanna Moakler and Lindsay Lohan might be doing simultaneous spit takes at that last line, but Paris' pull-out is a disappointment. As fans of The Simple Life and Internet porn are well aware, Paris knows comedy.
In light of the inane nature of scripted awards show patter, it's bizarre that Paris' people and the producers couldn't find some common ground at this last date. And it's another bad break for the Billboards. Paris was expected to host the show with her new best friend Britney, but Britney cancelled out last week.
The Billboard awards will carry on, regardless. The show's set to air live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas at 8 p.m. on Fox.
