MTV says 'Viva Las VMAs'

Los Angeles, New York and Miami miss out on the orgies and gunplay this September, as MTV is taking its Video Music Awards to Las Vegas-- and what happens in Vegas this time around really is staying there.

The 24th annual version of the show will take place at the Palms Hotel and Casino. And while, for the first time, the network will program the entire weekend around the awards-- they'll also broadcast the complete awards show just that once.

They say: "Encore presentations of this year's VMAs will be remixed versions that will be programmed by and for the viewers."

The Palms is a comfortable fit for MTV: not only celebutard and movie star central, but home to the twelfth season of MTV's The Real World, and a special, same-suite reunion series, The Real World: Las Vegas II that just wrapped three weeks of filming and is set to debut on May 30th.

The MTV Video Music Awards will be staged in various Palms venues on September 9th and air live at 9 p.m.

(MTV announced its Movie Awards nominations today. And they imported Nicole Richie for its Australian VMAs over the weekend. See who won here.)
