William Shatner is the new Charlie Rose!

William Shatner has signed on to host a celebrity-interview show on the Biography Channel.

Who better to revive the golden era of talk shows, the days of Dick Cavett, David Susskind and Stanley Seigel, and rescue it from the product-pushing cue card readers like Jay Leno and James Lipton? And what better way for The Biography Channel to emulate Court TV and boost its hipness quotient by hiring a 76-year old guy with a toup?

And seriously, who better than the storied Shat to lead (just the hiring of Katie Couric did at CBS) the charge of cable television's most pretentious, holier-than-thou networks into tabloid territory?

On the half-hour Shatner's Raw Nerve, the acting joke turned respected award-winning star of Boston Legal will interview actors and politician types. Bio reps say producers will make an effort to book guests who aren't on movie an other junkets.

Boston Legal bloodbath!

Julie Bowen, Mark Valley, Rene Auberjonois and Constance Zimmer have all been dumped from the cast of David E. Kelley's Boston Legal.

Filling the gap and probably taking their salaries is TV perennial John Larroquette. He won't reprise his Emmy-winning role from The Practice (from which Boston was spun off), but play an attorney from the law firm's New York City office.

And while the contract options weren't picked up, other contracts were written up or upgraded at the ABC dramedy:

Newsgasm: Big night for little people

Talk about a bizarre Halloween coincidence. Only hours ago, we posted our first story about dwarves. Now we realize that tonight, Halloween, the goblins behind network programming have wound up in a spooky standoff. The treat: two series are running romantic storylines built around little people. Dwarves. The trick: both are airing at 10 pm tonight.

Big business. Small world.
