It's like Inside The Actors Studio, but for musicians. That's the best way to describe A&E's new series PRIVATE SESSIONS which I sat down and unzipped for expecting a very different show. Initially a little sad it wasn't what I had hoped for, the show is really fun.
Despite the fact that it is hosted by the least charismatic host since Road Rules' Drew Bell, the fun and insightful Private Sessions interviews musicians from Avril Lavigne to Meatloaf over the series cutting in live performances of their new and classic hits. The mind numbing, slightly over nipped and tucked hostess Lynn Hoffman who is clinging to her 30's like a fat kid to an ice cream cone, stumbles her way through interviews feigning interest in incredible stories, insight and tales of inspiration form fascinating music icons in the one hour series which airs every Sunday at 9am. It's early enough you can set your DVR and know it wont interfere with anything else...unless you DVR the sunday Snorks at 9:05 in which case you are too awesome for words.
So what's the contest? At the end of this season I will post trivia questions about the artists and their songs based on information given during the remaining shows. Warning: questions could be as random as what colour shoes was Toby Keith wearing so pay attention as you watch. The reader who get the most questions right will win a Krups XP4050 Espresso Machine and PRIVATE SESSIONS coffee mugs. In your emailed entries with the answer, give me a piece of trivia about your favorite musician. In the event of a tie, a winner will be chosen based on who supplied the best trivia question to me as decided by me.
So that's it. Simple. Just go to A&E Sundays at 9am watch PRIVATE SESSIONS. Absorb what you watch while you enjoy it. Then come back here in a few weeks for the trivia questions. Artists slated to appear on upcoming episodes of PRIVATE SESSIONS include The Goo Goo Dolls on July 29, country music star Toby Keith on August 5, blues-rock band Blues Traveler on August 12 and rocker Meat Loaf on August 19. Nine additional episodes are planned for production in 2007.
