At least Lazy Sunday was good.
That's all I can say after a weeklong viewing of HOT ROD on DVD. Why a full week? I kept falling asleep or finding other things to do midway through the film. Im not the type to call out a movie for being worse than 9/11, but if I were that type, I may do so for HOT ROD. I've always seen Andy Samberg as someone who tries very hard to be alternative; from his haircut to his digital shorts, it's clear the guy really wants to embrace the alt lifestyle as his own. Sadly, in this film it feels like an obvious laborious attempt to do what came naturally in films like Napoleon Dynomite. Despite his hopes to be the next Adam Sandler me thinks this A.S. will wind up with a career reminiscent of Jimmy Fallon's.
Tomorrow, Hot Rod comes to DVD and while I can't recommend you run out and buy it, if you happen to have weed around, it could be worth a netflix. Also, movies this bad are ripe for creative drinking games (not unlike Joe's Apartment where a shot is taken every time someone says "joe"). Luckily you won't have to shell out the $30 for the DVD if you are one of our 5 lucky winners. All you have to do is send me an email telling me the worst movie you've ever seen and why it was so bad. The 5 entries I closest identify with after having seen HOT ROD, will receive a copy of the DVD as a stocking stuffer for that special person in your life that you may potentially hate. For the rest of you, there is always amazon.com you can preorder your copy of HOT ROD now which comes to DVD tomorrow.
Entries will be accepted until this Friday at 11:59pm PST.
