What's It Feel Like to Be a Guest on Degrassi?

Well, now that The O.C. won't be around much longer to jumpstart indie and alternative music acts, maybe Degrassi: The Next Generation can pick up the slack(ers)-- especially when the show goes wide in syndication.

For now, the hard-hitting, hip--and respectable-- Canadian teen soap will be giving a big push to alt rockers and Warped vets Taking Back Sunday, with an appearance, musical showcase and episode named for one of its songs. Hey, this is up there with the Beach Boys appearing on Full House.

Degrassi, Hi! Teen soap heads to syndication

Now this is the kind of "educational/informative" programming we've been looking for! The FCC mandates that every broadcast station must supply three hours a week of this nourishment for kids, so what better than a series that covers teen sex, pregnancy, rape, suicide, eating disorders, lesbian kisses, school shootings, cutting, gay boys, relationships, and more teen sex? What better than Saved By The Bell with sex? Kevin Smith's favorite show?

Canada's very serious teenage soap Degrassi: The Next Generation, which offers the ratings pull of gritty teen drama and fulfills FCC requirements in one pretty package, is moving to American syndicated TV next fall.
