Sunday Night Right: Fox News' comedy series

Here's a clip from the pilot of the Fox News Channel's new "right-wing comedy series." The format of The 1/2 Hour News Hour is a lot like Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update (except the comics playing the newsreaders don't seem to think they're so damn cute), and the presentation's derivative of The Colbert Report and The Daily Show-- but that's the idea, isn't it? All in all, it's funnier than SNL, got more laughs than MAD TV, is wa-a-ay more comedic than that show-within-a-show on Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip-- and if not for the laugh track, you might think you're watching the real Fox News.

Only distraction are the paid laughers in the audience who chortle a little too hard (we think we hear Sean Hannity in the mix there).

But even funnier than the clip is that it comes from that laffmeister Joel Surnow, producer of 24, now under fire from the military for its torture scenes.

Fox is giving the show a test run, airing two pilots over the next three Sunday nights at 10 p.m. The first will air this Sunday and next. The second runs on March 4th.

WTF? Are you kidding me? I know SNL hasn't been funny for year, and Studio 60 is only marginally funny, but you think this is better? The only joke that came close to making me laugh was the one about the Marion Barry endorsement. I almost chuckled. This is just more proof that the people in charge of Fox have absolutely no idea what they are doing.

Fox News channel is already full of fake news programs, so this new one isn't funny.
