Friday Night Lights gets a second season

fridaynightlights.jpg

NBC has finally given the green light to a second season for Friday Night Lights, the 30 Rock of small town football dramas (low ratings, some critical praise, big love from entertainment boss Kevin Reilly, and a tortured, drawn-out wait for an eleventh-hour decision).

The renewal really is the equivalent of a completed Hail Mary pass. The show has managed to scrape up only an average 2.3 rating/6 share and 6.1 million viewers overall. Yet, NBC is expected to give an a full 22-episode order.

Lights has been bouncing around timeslots. It had been running at 8 pm, is now schedueld to return on Sunday May 27th at 9 pm, and will have a 9 pm or later slot in its new season. For some reason, there's been no talk about running the damn show on Fridays!

Getting the jump on next week's upfronts (when the networks introduce the coming season), NBC's also let leak that they've picked up five pilots:

Bionic Woman, starring British actress Michelle Ryan;

Chuck, a spy dramedy bout a guy with a supercomputer brain recruited by the government;

Journeyman, about a journalist who travels through time to right wrongs;

Life, starring American-impersonating Brit (Band of Brothers) Damian Lewis as a cop who returns to the beat after proving he was wrongfully convicted of murder; and

Lipstick Jungle, about three successful NYC career gals-- based on the book by Sex In The City author Candace Bushnell (Sex TV producer Darren Star was set to work on the series, but defected to ABC with a ripoff called Cashmere Mafia).

We'd put our money on Bionic and Lipstick.

PANTHERS WIN STATE!!!!

I heard about this last night and immediately took my head out of the oven and creamed my pants in joy. This is better than Christmas and my birthday and Arbor Day all put together. I'm so happy, I may vomit.

Thank god this show is coming back. And a thousand times NO should they show this on Fridays. It would be the death of that show and quite frankly its too good for that. And people who think this show should be on Fridays because its called 'Friday Night Lights' really should do something else...(I'll think of something). And Screamapillar, cant wait for your recaps again. I miss them. Hell yeah Season 2!!!!
