More credibility embarrassment from MSNBC, fresh off its cancellation of Don Imus' radio show telecast. One of their "news anchors," boyish conservative talking head Tucker Carlson, has signed on become a game show host.
The elitist Carlson was once known for wearing bowties, is best known to his own generation for a spanking he received from Jon Stewart before he was fired from CNN (see it here), and was most recently mocked for being the first pseudo-celeb voted off the third season of Dancing with The Stars. Now, the folks who imported The Weakest Link will have him front Who Do You Trust, a pilot for CBS.
Who Do You Trust? is, of course, a remake of an old quiz show.
Johnny Carson hosted the original from 1957 to 1962. That's where he met Ed McMahon, who was the announcer.
Carlson is not a pioneer in the news-to-smarmy game show host transition. Dreamy Anderson Cooper (who, like Carlson, sports two last names) hosted The Mole, Nixon staffer Ben Stein had a show on Comedy Central and Today's Meredith Vieira hosts Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? And then there's Jerry Springer.
