Heroes accused of foiling Watchmen

NBC's sci fi hit (and TV Land's future classic) TV series Heroes was hailed in its return last night, but it's being damned today for allegedly ripping off a pivotal plot twist from the modern classic graphic novel-comic book series, Watchmen.

Watchmen has been kicking around Hollywood for twenty years, but is finally scheduled to lens this year, now that Zack Snyder, who directed the surprise live action comic movie 300, has chosen it as his next movie. 300 star Gerald Butler will be in the cast, and they're working to get Tom Cruise as well.

So what's the Heroes problem?

Not to give away any spoilers from the comic, movie or show... but...

...Heroes, like Watchmen, centers on a group of gadget-using superheroes, and a catastrophe that could unite the world, similar to one in Watchmen. Fans like Stephen Lynch in the NY Post say the machinations involved could spoil the surprises of the long-awaited movie.

Heroes creator Tim Kring has said that any similarities are coincidental because he doesn't know comics that well.

Watchmen? More like Rising Stars.

eeneill:

Here is the fact. Heroes is a great show using both classic and modern themes, just like Watchmen did.
