Takei will appear in the January 29th cliffhanger episode, as a "big honcho" who shows up with a bodyguard and a scheme to kidnap Hiro and take him back to Japan-- which is a drag, since the young office worker only came to America to save the world (see, he traveled five weeks into the future just in time to see the annilihation of New York-- and there's a cheerleader involved). Check in here to get up to speed on the lively comic book action. You can even watch the episodes you missed (even while you're supposed to be working). Amazing.

Masi Oka, who plays the hero named Hiro, tells TV Guide that the addition of Takei is "absolutely brilliant." So we guess he's excited about it.

"I just hope I get to say, 'Dad! Sulu is my hero, not you!' The sci-fi fans would love it!"

At 69, George Takei is a certified cult figure among Trekkies (er, Trekkers), and has seen his faded star shine brightly in recent years, thanks in no small part to his appearances on the old Howard Stern radio show. Now that Stern has taken his show to the subscribers- only, pay-satellite market, Takei has been on board as the show's "official voice" and announcer. Back in October of last year, he became a real life hero to many when he "came out" as a contented gay, deep-voiced, enunciating senior citizen.
