Newsgasm: Dick Clark returns for New Year's

clark.jpgDick Clark refuses to let Ryan Seacrest be his own man and host a TV show on his own, alone, like Carson Daly. Despite his buzz-killing appearance on ABC's last New Year's Rockin' Eve special, when he brought every partier down with his reminder that in the future we're all going to get old, have a stroke and die, Clark is coming back again this December 31st to co-host the 2007 New Year's countdown and bash with Seacrest and Christina Aguilera.

Seacrest, at 31, is expected to succeed Clark as the show's host, but the powerful mogul is holding on as long as he can, despite the stroke two years ago that sidelined him for the 2005 show and was expected to lead to a well-deserved retirement from the small screen.

But not Dick Clark. He owns the production company. We suppose he didn't want that excruciating Barry Manilow serenade at the Emmys to be his swan song. Hey, maybe this year he can bring a friend along to the party. What's Kirk Douglas doing?

I’ve been kinda agnostic on the whole TB infection issue. I read what interests me, and ignore what doesn’t. I just read in the forums that TB (as I suspected) isn’t a person; it’s a committee, with its own website! This, along with the ubiquitous “Ask” links makes me wonder if my favorite website has been sold. If so, then J-Unit is now an employee, shepherding a transition. I couldn’t blame him: ya gotta eat. It just bums me out.

conrad5:

No…it’s a culture, and a mentality.

Tabloid Baby:

Yeah it's a culture and it's a mentality and we're a part of it. We helped invent it. look it up.

Madeyoulaugh:

Conrad,

TB is a committee? News to me. I've met the guy. He has his own website, true. As do half the people that conribute to the site (check out the contact link above and you'll see who has what blog).

Some people come for the news, some people come for the recaps, I just come for the ladies. There's a little something for everyone.

MYL

Memememe:

UGH!

Dick Clark, are you listening? It's time to retire!

conrad5:

I think I understand: TB is an author who founded/owns his own website, but refers to himself as “we” because he wants to credit his correspondents, who’s contributions he compiles, edits, and posts eponomously. What’s still unanswered (and probably none of my business) is whether or not there’s some sort of merger or acquisition in progress.

It really doesn't matter: it is what it is, it aint what it aint. As long as the content here remains creative and interesting, most reasonable people (and I include myself in that category) will certainly give you a fair shake, and wish you well. You could have caused a lot less piling on though, had you made some sort of announcement. It’s not as if you don’t have any street cred. I’m picking up your book today-it looks entertaining.

MYL: I thought you came for the wasabi.

RealityTV4Me:

Again, TB stuff should have it's own link on the front page. J-Unit, B-Side, myl, even EdHill and the others are here to recap our favorite shows and provide us with enough fodder to get us through our own workdays.

It's getting way too cumbersome to scroll through all the rags to get to the recaps. You can post a comment and then have to scroll through 2 or 3 pages just to find it again.....and that's only after a few hours!

watcher:

Looks to me like the whole TVgasm gang is posting up a storm. Nice.

For recaps I'm just bokmarking all the shows pages that I usually follow, and I'm scrolling through the blog to poke around when I'm hanging out. No biggie.

Forums getting more interesting, too. More please!

sg-dub:

BTW, we typed "bullshit" into ask.com for you. It led us to a story whose morale is: "Bullshit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there."

Lame. Was that a dig at me? It would have been more effective if you knew the difference between "morale" and "moral."

Ex:

My morale is low after wading through a bunch of dumb ass posts to get to a recap these days.

But I guess the moral of my prior statement is: "More posts = more page hits = more money!"

- AND, to make it trickier, "moral" is a homonym. -

Ex: Only someone with shady morals would make readers wade through tons of dumb ass posts and new page loads in order to make a couple more bucks from advertisers.

Hope this helps!

watcher:

Honestly sg-dub, your pointless vitriol is getting quite tiresome. TB, don't waste your time with him. A lot of us are enjoying your posts, and we know how to click through to the recaps. If that helps you guys with your advertisers, fine, maybe it'll keep you around longer. Nothing wrong with success -- it's nice to see TVgasm growing.

sg-dub:

This is fun!

It's not adevertisers, but YOU that Tvgasm cares about. For that, you accuse the great folks here of having shady morales?

Ignoring what I assume you think is a funny purposeful misspelling, (HINT: It wasn't funny) let me clarify; I think most everone in LA has shady morals. I think tabloids themselves are shady and pathetic and prey on people and have no problem printing lies and ruining lives.

Speaking of lying, if you didn't care about advertisers, you'd not post so many posts. You wouldn't force readers to make a ton of page hits to read a recap. You wouldn't take away the "View All" feature.

You're new here so I'll help you out; TVgasm has great writers who elevate the recap beyond the norm. They are creative, witty, and put lots of effort into them. You don't. Readers see that and they react. Your thin skin here and in the forums is furhter evidence to me that you don't belong here.

Somewhere there's a morale in this...

Sigh. I see you didn't take the hint.

sg-dub:

and the damn html tags didn't even work - but did in preview mode! Argh!

Oh watcher, hush. My vitriolic points are valid - to my mind at least. Care to place bets on how this is gonna all play out?

sg-dub:

Whatever. I'm done. Shilling your book (again) just proves my point as does your blatant lack of TVgasm knowledge. (You'll understand that last point tomorrow, I promise.)

Since you enjoy fun with wordplay and words that have double meanings, perhaps you'll enjoy this one:

A "BM" is a turd.

Hugs and kisses!

TinkerbellAPixie:

Ok - I gotta say something in response to this

"we have been encouraged to interact with the commenters, like you."

First, I thought you were interacting with us - because you wanted to get to know the fanbase of TVGasm. My mistake.

Second, sg-dub is not a commenter, he's a TVGasm writer. A very well-liked and respected TVGasm writer. If you tried reading some of the things on this site a little in between all your "news" posting you might have realized that.

As for you, watcher - are you one of the "we"?

Silver559:

sg-dub? as in, author of last season's wonderful Prison Break recaps?

LostFan:

So what's the ETA on getting TabloidBaby its own section away from the recaps?

This has gotten old. Might as well just rename the site newsgasm.com at this point.

conrad5:

I didn’t really didn’t mean to start all this dissension.

LaPhonda:

SGDub why don't you go and write a dam recap instead of ragging on some poor kids whose getting up early and doing work on a Sunday. Why dont you all write some damn recaps instead of ragging. It's not like your paying for it. Whose the damn baby anyway?

watcher:

Agreed, haven't seen an sg-dub recap in a coons' age. I'm aware that he was a writer. So what? If he put as much effort into writing some interesting posts instead of complaining, there might be something else more worthwhile to read.

watcher:

and.. I'm smelling some sour grapes here. It appears sg-dub has an ax to grind apart from anything he might think about TB. No one could be that rude for no good reason for so long -- the insulation of anonymous commenting makes it real easy. And, no, I'm not part of the "we." I just like the site and think there's room for all kinds of stuff.

conrad5:

Obviously, TB=w=LaPhony ( unfunny racist stereotype). One need not be a linguistics expert to deduce this.

If you wish to assimilate sg-dub, then Locutus should arrange a sit-down...not a contract hit. It’s bad form to whack a captain.

GasmFan:

conrad5 writes #7, "You could have caused a lot less piling on though, had you made some sort of announcement." Amen to that. If TVgasm was sold then so be it and good for J & B. It does seem odd that J-Unit and B-Side haven't had much to say regarding this growing controversy. I miss the old TVgasm and have decided to deal with it by only reading (and clicking on) the TVgasm writers - you know the clever, witty writers sg-dub speaks of. Yes, this will be my last click on a Tabloid Baby post and I can only hope...the dingo eats the baby.

LaPhonda:

Stick to the damn issue, Conrad. Your the racist, ragging on me cause I'm Asian.

EdHill:

Best comments section EVER.

CrazyTrain:

So, I have been MIA for a few weeks and didn't even realize that View All was gone... What's the reason it was taken away, if not for increased page hits? (And didn't you guys just add it, at the request of us readers?) Page to page scrolling is uch a pain and dstracts from the recap. :(

zoobabe:

I'm gone for a few days with no internet access and look at the good shit I miss! I wondered why a "Dick Clark" post had so many comments.

I'll check out the forums to get the backstory but sg-dub, you're still as witty as ever! I wish you were still recapping. :)

Ubiquitous:
Somewhere there's a morale in this...
Are you aware that you're using the wrong word or just being a dick? Speaking of which, I'm hoping Seacrest gets replaced as Dick Clark's replacement.
dredge:

only 3 or 4 stories a day?..that's alot.

thanks sg-dub for clarifying my dim bulb hunch of late. When I have to read things like "we at ..." from TB, it reminds me of "we the people of skooner tuna support the housewives of america..." and i roll my eyes. The whole point of reading tvgasm, for me, was to get some diverse, witty, nasty, incisive writing that is original and not homogenized. We have that already with Entertainment weekly, TV-GUIDE, PEOPLE, US, and on and on.

"Yeah it's a culture and it's a mentality and we're a part of it. We helped invent it." kinda creepy. and rather imperious of you(s). dark side of the nerd. to become the conformist.

I'll tune in for the writers like B-Side, Katies Hole, J-Unit..

and if i hear anymore of this "It is what it is.." landmark/forum/relativism shit anymore...take some fuckin responsibility.
