If you haven't seen last night's Survivor, then don't bother reading any more of this. Why? Because less than twenty-four hours later, there's already a conspiracy theory about who went home. Details (and spoilers, if you haven't seen the episode) after the jump...
Lonely nurse Stephannie Favor was booted from Survivor: Cook Islands last night by a 7-1 vote. Conventional wisdom is that she was done in by her comment to Nate that she looked forward to chowing down on "some mashed potatoes and gravy," a week after describing herself as the "weakest link."
But was it the series' racial tribalism come back to bite her?
This morning on the CBS Morning Show's hilarious Trader Vic's Tiki Lounge set (complete with flaming torches and big Styrofoam rocks), Stephannie said her ouster may have been retaliation for voting off Sekou on episode one, back when the tribes were racially segregated. Nate was the other male in the African American group, and he was the one who spread his spin of her "mashed potatoes" quote.
"He was upset," Stephannie said this morning. "I think that may have been a part of it, yes. Could have been. Perhaps it was some kind of retaliatory act."
Stephannie insists her heart was in the game. "I actually loved the show. I tried out three times. The third time was the charm for me. And yes, I really wanted to go further along in the game. It's unfortunate the mashed potatoes comment did me in."
There may be one more reason Stephannie went when the bossy lady cop Cristina seemed a shoe-in to be booted out. The Morning Show played a "secret scene" in which Stephannie decides to lead her tribe in prayer. There were more downcast eyes than at a Cao Boi lecture.
