Weekend Update. He quit for a movie career that never quite lived up to expectations. He's known to think he's more funny than he is. And he's probably not too interested in what other people have to say.
So why not give him his own talk show?
We saw what happened when Fox poured millions into a late night talker starring Chevy Chase. And now history could repeat itself, as NBC is thinking about handing over Late Night with Conan O'Brien to Jimmy Fallon.
In what's got to be devastating news to Carson Daly, who's been begging for the gig, The New York Times reports the network is working to sign Fallon to a "holding deal." The deal would keep him in place for sitcoms or a role on Law & Order-- but all the whispers are about late night, and taking over, if and when Conan moves into Jay Leno's Tonight Show gig as promised in 2009.
