Last week's episode put them over the edge. This was the one promoted as the big kahuna, in which "answers to three of Lost's biggest mysteries are finally revealed." But by the time the final credits flashed by, message boards at ABC.com, creator JJ Abrams' Fuselage fansite and other online forums were filled with complaints-- since the three "mysteries" were not exactly any of the big questions central to the central to the plane crash story.
After a meandering and molasseslike season, ABC and Lost team keep assuring everyone that all questions will be answered-- but in this case, they threw a couple of suits to the lions.
ABC Entertainment's marketing chiefs Mike Benson and Marla Provencio were left to take the heat on this one. They responded to an e-mail response, insisting the "show delivered the answers to the three questions that were posed in the promo, which we believe are questions on our viewers minds.
"We have the utmost respect for Lost viewers. Our intention is never to alienate, only to entice."
Maybe the promo boys were as frustrated as the fans, and their over-hype was a passive-aggressive meansof getting the writers to stop mucking around and cut to the chase(s).

jesus I am so angry at lost. WE DONT CARE ABOUT JULIET AND JACK ANYMORE, WRITERS. What are sayid and locke up to? they're the ones we care about, they're the ones who will figure out all the plane crash polar bear killer smoke craziness, and plus they aren't SUPER LAME. Sheesh, at this point I'll take a Sun and Jin episode over another "what will happen with jack/kate/sawyer/benry/juliet" melodrama

Actually I was getting sick of the same old Sayid and Locke plotlines and have seriously been enjoying the Jack/Juliet story. Not only has it made Jack far less obnoxious, but Juliet is by far the most interesting female character on the show (Sun hasn't been since Season 1).
Although it doesn't seem like the Others story is moving us along, it's clearly more likely to get us answers to the big questions than hanging out with Locke and Sayid. The Others have been there a lot longer and sticking with them will provide us with information that is actually useful (as opposed to Locke stumbling onto something and having no idea what it is except that it is mysterious and portentous. At least when we see stuff like that in the Others story, we get a little more context (even if it might be full of lies).
I am really sick of the lazy impatient "hardcore" Lost fans whining about how the show hasn't given us any answers yet. Give me a break! We are only on the 9th episode of the season! We were 2 whole episodes away from even discovering the Hatch in Season 1 (and even then it was only for like 2 seconds as a winter hiatus cliffhanger). Until the show gives me reason to believe that they are just dicking around I have no problem with it. Yes it's frustrating that nobody seems to ask any questions when they should, but that has been a problem since Day 1. I refuse to hold judgment until I see the Season 3 finale.

Compared to the other drivel that is on TV these days, this show is still a gem IMO. The people with the ADHD, fast food, instant gratification mentality need to chill out and enjoy the ride while it lasts. I am not even watching the 3rd season yet, waiting for it to come out on DVD. It takes a lot of self-control, though to not browse through the Lost recaps ;)

it's not that i'm impatient; it's that the story is meandering and seems purposeless. I have always suspected that the writing of 'Lost' consists of a little bit of story planning and a lot of winging it as they go along. The way the pace is moving along these days, I just feel like the meandering nature of the plot is not artful restraint, but, rather, stalling, either to stretch the story long enough so that the show can go into syndication, or because they just don't know how to pull all the loose threads together. Add to that the fact that several of the lead characters have been killed off in dubious fashion at the same moment that the actors who portrayed them were involved in some sort of off-screen conflict that suggests that they were written off to get rid of the actor, not because their deaths were part of the story's original design. Add to that the disappearance of Walt, which even the producers have conceded is largely due to the fact that they couldn't figure out how to explain why Walt was aging from 10 to 13 in eighty days.
All of which spoils suspension of disbelief, which is crucial to the appreciation of the sci-fi/fantasy genre.
I like Juliet too, but I find myself getting irritated with her story line because it's mostly expositional. I'm tired of the 'prequels.' I want some forward progress. The flashbacks are filler. I don't care how Jack got his tattoo. I feel like I know him pretty well by now. All of that stuff about Jack being a reluctant leader--haven't we been over that a few times?
I will still watch it because I'm curious, but I no longer think of 'Lost' in the glowing terms I once did. They could always stun me and prove me wrong with an elaborate denouement as they pull the series to a close, but I'm not counting on it.

Lost jumped the shark when the most interesting characters, the black guy with the kidnapped son, suddenly disappeared. With no explanation. Poof. Vamoos. Adios. WTF? While all the geeks were fixated on the wool covering their eyes. Or in other words..."The Hatch" and "Symbols", people following the story were like, 'where have all the original characters gone?' So now we're here. With a shell of a once great show. The writers and suits trying to salvage a Titanic once considered a Nimitz. How times have changed. Polar Bears, Hatches, Keyboards and Killer Shadows. ABC, do us all a favor and wrap this disaster up by May. With ALL answers to this inexplicaple plot. Regardless of how silly it will turn out. We do not need another season of Lost.

The most interesting characters were Michael and Walt? Are you crazy? Walt was cute and all but Michael was an idiot.
This is still a great show, and you're all watching it. The past two episodes have been killer, and speak for yourself America's next Top Fan, we DO need another season. Juilet's an awesome character because we never really know if she's good or bad.
As far as the flashbacks, that's what this show has always been built around, so why is it a problem now?

I agree that so many people are being way too impatient. We've received a considerable amount of answers. Although, they may not be answers like, "Hey, these are who the others are and this is why everyone's here and this is what the black smoke really is and this is why there are polar bears here and this is why John Locke can walk, etc. etc."
I mean, I seriously think people expect JJ Abrams to just produce a whole episode where it's just him talking to the audience explaining everything. We're getting pieces to the puzzle people. Yes it's long and in some episodes tedious, but they have answered questions or at least begun to. And I'd say they've taken a drastic step in the right direction now so just cut them a break.
If any true fans of Lost leave the show, I'd be surprised.

The reason I personally considered Michael and Walt (thanks for reminding me of their names, been so long) the most interesting characters on the show was because they injected a bit of heart into the story amongst all the sillyness that was going on. Michael, having to give up his son and then take him back. Those were meaty roles and complex relationships that were never truly explored. That storyline could have went much deeper than it did. Instead, ABC decides to get rid of the two because they didn't realize Walt would hit puberty by age 13 and sprout a feet or two. What a bunch of idiots. Didn't they realize he was getting older? A strong argument can be made that the show went silly when Walt was kidnapped.
As far as answers. There have been a lot. We finally learned that Jin will speak english. WOW big revelation. Hurley is still having flashbacks about eating and lottery numbers. Whoo, didn't see that one coming. We also learned that our superheros are going to rescue Jack. Damn, knock me over with a feather!
What would be great is if they killed of Jack, Sawyer, Hurley, Locke and all the rest and just start with a fresh script.
