"A reality version of Cocktail*" is how producer Tony DeSantos is describing Maui Fever, MTV's island version of Laguna Beach. And with a cast of hot-blooded, hot-bodied young Hawaiians that includes a pro surfer, high-drama waitresses and tourist-targeting Romeos all looking to get lei'ed-- five out of seven already linked on a sexual daisy chain-- it's looking like the fancy drinks with umbrellas will take a back seat to the obvious double-entendre of the cocktail tag on a sex-soaked, drama-filled fantasy island.
And that means that we can't wait to say "Aloha" when the show hits on January 17th.
MTV introduced the cast this week. Here are Cheyne, Corbin, Chaunte, Anna, Anthony, Sean and Jesse (and eighth-wheel Rachael), as described by the folks who brought us Kristin Cavallari:
CHEYNE
Cheyne is all things you'd expect a top pro surfer to be: a party-all-night, funny, outgoing, handsome guy. As the most popular guy in Kaanapali and the son of professional skateboarder Tony Magnuson, will his relationship with girlfriend Rachael survive his attraction to his ex, Anna?CORBIN
With no goals and no girlfriend, Corbin is the kind of guy who cant take anything or anyone too seriously. Pinned the clown of his social group, Corbin seems to be everyone's pal in Kaanapali while perpetually cracking jokes.CHAUNTE
Notorious for being the center of attention, Chaunte is sure to stir up the drama wherever she goes. She likes to keep her on-and-off boyfriend Anthony in the palm of her hand while she keeps her eyes open for other love interests.ANNA
She's Chaunte's partner in crime and roommate. They even work together as hostesses at a restaurant. And like Chaunte, Anna relishes the attention the attention of boys, especially one boy in particular, ex-boyfriend Cheyne. Since Cheyne started dating Rachael, he and Anna have remained close, much to Rachael's dismay. Cheyne and Anna's attraction is palpable and it gets the best of them.ANTHONY
Quiet and shy, Anthony is hanging on tight to his relationship with Chaunte. While Chaunte insists they remain just friends, Anthony is incapable of making a decision without her, and unable to see her flirty and manipulative ways. How long until Anthony catches on and cuts all ties?SEAN
Sean is what one would call the Kaanapali player. Not your normal one-night-stand player, he often dips into the constant flow of tourists to find his love du jour. Will this spontaneous waiter ever settle down?JESSE
The new guy in town, Jesse has already moved in with best bud Corbin and become part of the in crowd. Still Jesse often feels like an outsider and finds himself breaking the number one rule in Kaanapali: don't fall for tourists.(*We told you about the Maui Fever connection to the classic surfing film, Blue Crush. Well, get this: like Crush, Cocktail, starring Tom Cruise and Bryan Brown, just happens to be on the list of Tabloid Baby's Top 50 movies of all time!)

I only watched the clips on the internet, but I must say, I could feel myself getting dumber by the second. Do these people actually speak English or does the series of grunts, drunken slurs, and f-me looks suffice as conversation among these idiots? I live down the road from Kaanapali and I dispute the concept that these people are the "IN Crowd" since this is actually a community of families. The real in crowd would probably be the politicians and business owners.
Also, I'm pretty sure that Ted Bundy trolled for victims in much the same way these guys prey on tourists. How on Earth can those girls be aware of and part of such a depraved indifference toward other women? "Let's invite over some hot chicks (for Jesse to have sex with) and have a party!" -Ana. Reminds me of a movie I saw recently called Alpha Dog. Is it so important to be thought of as cool, that you would sell out your fellow women to be used as a sperm receptacle?
