Surrender, Zooey! To SciFi's "Wizard of Oz"!

It's a big day in the Deschanel house. First, Emily finds out that Fox has renewed her series Bones (along with House, no duh) for the 2007-08 season. And now, little sister Zooey, the loveable shopgirl from Elf gets a chance to play with little people of the Munchkin variety as she's signed on for the lead role in the Sci Fi Channel's miniseries retelling of The Wizard of Oz.

Zooey will play DG-- as in "Dorothy Gale"-- a young woman transported from her dull life into the O.Z. (Outer Zone), "a fantasy-filled world of wonder that's also plagued by dark magic."

Alan Cumming has already been cast as "Glitch," the Scarecrow-like character (we'd figure he'd make a better Wizard, no?). Now all we need is Clay Aiken as the Tin Man and Rosie O'Donnell in the Cowardly Lion suit and they'll have a whole other kind of classic to run each year.

The six-hour series is being called Tin Man for now. It starts shooting next month in Vancouver, and move over Judy, they're looking for a premiere in December.

So they've got a Dorothy and a Tin Man. Suggestions for the other roles?
