NBC bets on big Breasts

sintetas.jpg

NBC's new programming boss and party animal Ben Silverman made his first fortune copying shows that were successful elsewhere on the world and copying them in America. From Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? to Big Brother, The Office to Ugly Betty, Silverman showed that imitation is the sincerest form of television and that in television, imitation is the sincerest form of profit. Now that he's setting up the dominos at NBC, that's not about to change.

Ben's first big move in the corner office is buying the rights to the Colombian telenovela Sin tetas no hay paraiso, which translates to Without Breasts There is No Paradise.

They're pretty literal in Colombia. The series centeres on a young woman determined to get bigger breasts in order to escape poverty. She ends up working as a prostitute, and gets involved with drug dealer along the way.

A typical Hollywood story, really. Do we smell a comeback for Paris?

Tetas (we love writing that) set ratings records in Colombia (unlike the telenovelas that bombed on Roger Ailes' My TV lastyear). Ben's last scripted TV hit was Betty, so he's is looking to copy that success as well and hopes the breast is yet to come (sorry).

NBC's sister net Telemundo will produce its own imitation Spanish-language version with a different cast and script.
