"I didn't pay him!" Who believes OJ's partner?

Yes, we realize that many of our readers would like us to concentrate on the joie de vivre of television, but occasionally we offer some insight into the people whose shows we tune into each week and the workings of the minds behind the scenes. In this case, there's Judith Regan, the celebrity editor who's reportedly paid OJ Simpson three and a half million dollars to put his name to a book called If I Did It..." and who'll co-star with Mr. Simpson in a two-night Sweeps informercial on Fox at the end of the month. Then the book goes on sale the next morning. Okay, the whole idea is cynical. Some would say it's despicable. But what's unbelievable is Regan's statement last night, which she claims-- apparently with a straight face-- "I didn't pay him." The savvy slick media maven apprently expects us to believe she paid a "third party" who "owns the rights" (rights to the murders?), who promises to give the money to OJ's kids.

So in her mind, her hands are clean of the blood. You can read Judy's creative writing here (don't eat first).

Then, how about it: Do you buy her sincerity?
