NBC revives American Gladiators

NBC's new programmer and party animal Ben Silverman knows that the best way of getting ahead is to copy what someone's already done successfully. From Ugly Betty to The Office, Ben made his name and his Reveille company rich by ripping off proven formats and shows from other countries.

Now, as head of NBC, he's reaching back into the past. No, he's not bringing back ALF (which he should--with the original cast--whoo!) by AMERICAN GLADIATORS!

The campy, steroid-pumped competition series ran in syndication from 1989 to 1996. Now it's set to show up midseason on NBC--possibly as a one-week strip-- and "updated for the 21st century with new technology and twists."

Which could mean that Nitro, Turbo and Laser will be renamed Britto, Pariso and Lindso.

NBC was interested in Am Glad before party animal Ben arrived as co-chairman of NBC Entertainment/Universal Media Studios co-chairman. And what a coincidence!

Ben was developing the project while he was still running Reveille.

Its believed that at least six episodes are in the works. For thos enot int he know, American Gladiators had amateur athletes compete against the show's regulars (action stars, stunt professionals and pro athletes) in various physical, strength and endurance competitions.
